Hmmm. I never considered you to be the spit into the wind James Dean type. You were out of control! What else don't we know about your reckless past? One of those cards could have popped loose and took out an eye.

So give over, SWD, what reckless things did you survive as a child?

Huh. I once took a 12 foot long pool skimmer and held it up toward the sky during a lightning storm just to freak everyone out. I still haven't heard the end of. You would think after a week, everyone would have let it go.

These people would have freaked out over our home made mini-bikes and go-carts. The only brakes we had were our feet if you didn't slide it sideways right.

We had an old car hood that we'd wax up and go sledding on. We'd pile 6-8 kids at a time and go flying down the hill behind our house, trying to push each other off as we went.

We also built our own go-carts and coasted them down powerline roads with 50' drop-offs on one side.

One year they built a powerline through our property and we spent the next couple years seeing who could climb the highest before they got scared.

We used to make apple bazookas: Hollow out the end of an apple and stuff it full of firecrackers. We had a piece of pipe with a screw-on cap on one end that we'd drilled a hole through. If I have to explain to you what happened next, then you are one of the kids that are no longer allowed to play dodgeball.

We built model cars and then blew them up with firecrackers. Then we'd take the pieces that were left and melt them together to make more cars to blow up.

We'd walk the two miles to the grocery store along lonely country roads through the woods, picking up pop/beer bottles along the way for money for candy.

The only two places we weren't allowed to play were the guy's fields down the road from us (who was a pedophile, but everyone knew about it and stayed away from him) and the old gravel pit (because it was used as a firing range and the ground was literally covered with shattered glass).

And see, you grew up okay.

Mike, I know you don't talk about it much, but I know you have done a lot of daring things and could probably challenge Evel Knievel for broken bones. You were a crazy kid!
