Edmund Hillary, first atop Everest, dies

Quote:
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Sir Edmund Hillary, the unassuming beekeeper who conquered Mount Everest to win renown as one of the 20th century's greatest adventurers, has died, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark announced Friday. He was 88.
If anyone doesn't know this story about Hillary Clinton, lying, and bad math, have a seat...

Quote:
For more than a decade, one piece of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s informal biography has been that she was named for Sir Edmund Hillary, the conqueror of Mount Everest. The story was even recounted in Bill Clinton’s autobiography.

But yesterday, Mrs. Clinton’s campaign said she was not named for Sir Edmund after all.

“It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add,” said Jennifer Hanley, a spokeswoman for the campaign.
Why the backtrack?...Simple...

It was found (probably by a 2nd grader), that the numbers don't add up...

Hillary was born in 1947...

Six years BEFORE Sir Edmund climbed Everest...

This is about the most NON-non-story yet!

My mother used to tell my brother that the his middle initial R stood for Rufus because she knew when he was born that he was going to be a smart-aleck just like my Uncle Rufus.

Truth is that it stands for Roy because she named him for my Uncle Roy. (who was the sweetest, most humble, most patient, kindest man that I ever knew)

Mothers sometimes say things that aren't true. Who'd a thunk?
