Default Pressure Groups Force Sign Removal

One of these signs was pressured into being removed from the New York - New Jersey area. Can you guess which one?

Hint...

Reverend Al Sharpton represented one of the pressure groups responsible for the removal.

Interesting.

Did you know that public pressure forced the removal of this sign

Atheist billboard removed: Why is Atheism so offensive? // Current

and replaced it with this one

Friendly Atheist Atheist Billboard Gets a Response

they also forced the removal of this one:

Guess folks aren't very tolerant.

(p.s. Sharpton had nothing to do with these ones)

Interesting.

I wonder...does the freedom of speech argument apply in either case here. I don't think you could make the "crying fire in a crowded building argument". In any case, I imagine if you were fanatic on either side you could say 'what if there really was a fire?"

Based on the information available it appears the atheist guys would have a better bitch, because there appears to be government involvement, even if it isn't an actual law.

Quote:
Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor says the city shouldn't be censoring speech."
Maybe Reverend Al does play the 'crying fire' card, by calling race.

Quote:
"The billboard was offensive, especially during Black History Month, and I had intended to hold a press conference Friday in front of the billboard to protest the message of racial profiling and against a woman"s right to choose," Sharpton said Thursday.
On the other hand, the other side could say they're the ones in support of racial equality because they're against pressure to control the black population.

Maybe both the side opposing atheist signs, and the side opposing pro-life signs are exhibiting intolerance.

Is pressured sign removal censoring free speech though?

No...

Everyone has the freedom to say or express what they want...But not everyone has the right or obligation to give you the platform to say or express it...

BTW, did you read the update in your second link?

Quote:
***Update***: I need to clear up a mistake I unfortunately helped spread. The billboard was moved from its first location to a new one (as contracted). The plans still have it going to a third location. The billboard was not “taken down.” The company simply put up a response in the first location after the FFRF sign was moved

I'm not sure I understand. Who was obliged to give anybody the platform? I was under the impression they were all renting the space.

Wouldn't this be a better argument. You may have the right to speak, but others have the right to speak against it. If pressure results so be it.

Al Sharpton's a media-whore with no ethics. Who cares what he thinks?

I don't think it involves free speech since billboards themselves are private property right? I think cnredd hit on the nail in that regard.

I've listened to all your arguments then, and must admit they're good ones.

This is what I have left then. It seems to boil down to a question of tolerance of others opinions.

Right or left both sides seem to exhibit a certain amount of intolerance. I don't think either side has the right to claim greater tolerance.

Well, well, well, now why would a pro-choice sign be frowned upon?
Could it be that the advocated choice is future life for a fetus?
I'm guessing that Mr Sharpton is strongly against retroactive abortion that would apply to his living circumstance.
