Have you had yellow rice? My family loves that. It made me gag when they tried to get me to eat that, or white rice for that matter when I was a kid.

I have eaten yellow rice. No difference except they don't bleach it. Heard stories that during the depression this uncle of mine was in the children's hospital for a long time and they had a lot of it there. My grandmother got him to eat it by telling him it had scrambled eggs in it.
But yeah I prefer rice over potatoes in almost every instance. With stew or beans or with gravy over it. Two exceptions are liver and fish. With either (fried) I like grits and gravy/grits and fish giblets.
My husband is from Idaho raised in Ft Worth. He likes potatoes fried, mashed, frenched, or hash browned...and beef.

Actually, the yellow rice I'm talking about begins as white rice, but has saffron added. It's a Cuban dish that has migrated across cultural lines over the years. My relatives love it. They love black beans too, that I feel should be held in bio hazard containers.

Oh yeah I love black beans. First tasted them in Miami. (along with fried bananas which I did not care for).
I'm not fond of some of the Asian and Indian spices. I don't remember if I've tasted (safron flavored rice) it or not.
And I might have been thinking of grits with my depression story.

Hmm. I wonder if they added some of that flavorful 'melamine' industrial contaminant, too - like they added to the BABY FORMULA they sold us ... or to the PET FOOD - it'll test out almost like real protein does, but it's not the same ... If they did it to us, why are we surprised when they do it to their own people ... ? Nothing to see here, folks - move along ...
