Here's another case that I'm familiar with,I know a person who was granted full disability for a serious arthritic condition. She sits home at a computer all day long,I asked her why they didn't suggest that she work from home as a customer support agent? She said they can't make her do that because her medication makes her "sleepy" and she sometimes has to go to bed for a few hours...
Another case, this person I know has been on disability for 30 years due to a work related accident. A few years back they threatened to cut him off because he was seen building yard barns and other construction projects. During his review,he threatened to commit suicide if they removed him from his benefits! The ploy worked like a charm..
Part of the problem with the long term disabled who have some measure of recovery is this...the concept of returning to work is very scary to them,so scary after 50 that it may well create very
real mental issues. The possibility that the government is (complicit) in this dilemma cannot be denied...
One of the most disturbing things of all is how the successful claimants often (council) friends and family members what not to say and how to act during these reviews. No wonder there's a two year waiting period to get a disability claim processed!
Sadly...if the rate of false claims continue to accelerate, it will hurt people who are legitimately receiving benefits by increasing scrutiny and thus more frequent reviews. I know people who work in severe pain every day and who would likely qualify for at least partial disability. The frauds out there should thank them for supporting them by "painfully" contributing to the system,a system that they freely abuse simply because they CAN...
