Things have changed a bit with the internet age. These things will be considered. And the correct decisions made. That's why we have three branches of government. I will echo Obama's sentiments that I think all you can get this dirt ball on is probably burning if he doesn't have a permit. But I am not a supreme court judge and maybe there are modern things to consider or maybe the old way will stand.
Thank you Saltwyn, for stating that - we don't even have the entire interview, only a selectively inflammatory snip.

Burning the Koran incites a similar public reaction as yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre. I'm not saying it is or isn't right - I'm saying it's a question that has value in exploring rather than a knee-jerk denial. And not just the Koran - maybe other holy books too.

On burning the flag - that is a rare event, but it does not produce a dangerous reaction in crowds. I'm not making a value judgement - I'm just saying what happens.
I totally disagree. Yelling fire in a crowded theater causes those around you to panic and attempt to escape as quick as possible. It's understandable that a crowd might react with panic if they think they're in a burning building. Burning a Koran causes NOTHING unless you are aiming to argue that Muslims are so out of control that they can't be accepted to react rationally to criticism. If a guy burns a Koran in Mississippi and then a radical Islamist blows up a crowd of people in Europe you can't blame the dude in Mississippi. The radicals have to be held accountable for their own damn behavior. It is NOT reasonable at all to expect and accept that radicals will blow people up just on the rumor that someone is going to, may have, or might possible burn a book on the other side of the globe.

The only reason burning the Koran causes a knee-jerk reaction is because there are so many extremists and nutcases who believe in it.
