If "the people" demand it the politicians will not have a choice.
My experience has been that if there is room for corruption or if it is tolerated it will only become larger and larger. My MY! Isn't that exactly what has been going on since the inception of our federal taxation system. With the new system we will not only be getting a fresh start there will be much less OPPORTUNITY for corruption. It sounds too good to be true so we WILL all be going in "on high alert and eyes wide open" to make absolutely sure that it will work and that the politicians can't ruin it. Stay alert yourself and help us make sure we don't miss any of the possibilities. This IS very much a team effort with a chance for that famous win win scenario. Join the team help get ALL the bugs out and open peoples eyes to the potential of such a system. So many oppose it because of the same reasons you used(it'll never happen, fair?, corruption, lose exemptions(if its not collected to begin with what good is an exemption?), government won't get enough, government won't be able to control, etc) that we need more help explaining it to a economically illiterate(thanks to public schools)country.

Considering that I have NO intention of being online at 12am EST, I'm going to give the format.
1) Your vote. 2) Reason for your vote. 3) Suggested course of action post vote. Yay! Let the first 24 hour voting session of PWHoR commence!

Somehow EVERY "bill" brought forward in congress just doesn't do what the proponents nor the opponents say it does. That darn "legal jargon" becomes almost indecipherable and is so easy to "slip" things into or by the simple omission or addition of a word mean exactly the opposite of the intent. It becomes a matter of spending hours checking it all out yourself or at a minimum a decision of who to trust. And then of course theres the morons that don't check anything and just cancel my vote. What to do? What to do?
It's just like in my state Fla. the politicians and interest groups found a "loophole" that allows State Constitutional Amendments on a simple majority popular vote(could you imagine if the national Constitution allowed such crap?) and now all kinds of "crap" gets into our Constitution. Not just our laws our Constitution. Amendments about how pig houses have to be built, High speed trains MUST be built at taxpayer expense even though no one would ride it, and now this year the 50-70% property tax cut they promised us turned into a couple of hundred dollars and they want us to put THAT in our Constitution in order to get it. Now as to my vote: I have been investigating the "fair tax" and so far I am pleasantly surprised at how it could be just TO GOOD TO BE TRUE. I am tremendously inclined to vote "hell yes" but...............somehow I STILL don't "trust" the politicians to get this right and feel like I need a "right to withdraw" my vote when and if I find a "dealbreaker" that was slipped in. Not to mention I'd want someone to have a "veto"(preferably line item and preferably a conservative not a liberal) that could cause a re-evaluation and readjustment if necessary. Well so much for my pre-vote rant. Just thinking out loud.

1. MY VOTE-----------AYE
2. MY REASON--------Good plan, much better than present system. 3. COURSE OF ACTION---Continue with debate in order to find ALL potential problems and to convince others that it IS the "right thing to do". Because a Constitutional change is a NECESSITY this "convincing others" is probably the MOST important part of this.

1) My vote...Aye
2) Reason for your vote...While I do see some potential problems, can the fair tax be any "worse" than what we have today? 3) Suggested course of action post vote...Discuss possible areas of concern and the viability of the fair tax plan. When and "if" the fair tax becomes the law of the land, will we even recognize it in it's present form?

We can either have 40 problems or we can have 40 problems with a couple of hundred thousand less people on the goverment payroll auditing revenue... I'll take the latter...

My Vote: No.
My Reason: Insufficient evidence to support implementation, including, but not limited to corporate tax concerns. Course of Action: Continue with the current system until means can be found to gradually change the system to a more fair system. Debate the issues of the fair tax and incorporate their intent if not their letter into the future legal framework.
