What is your all time favorite story, be it an entire book or an essay/short story?
My all time favorite to date is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I read it in the 80's and it left me with that feeling, you know, that I didn't want the story to end; the kind of tale that gives goose bumps as the author draws you on toward the conclusion. It kind of had everything. Adventure, human interest. Plus the back drop was the French Revolution. A man hunt involved an inspector I am sure our modern bumbling cops are based on. And of course, a great hero Jean Valjean. How 'bout you?

Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck Note: I was a BIG fan of the James Bond books (Only Ian Fleming ones...all of them)... No smarts needed, but they did take you away MUCH more than the movies... The thing I liked about them is that things were never "just" something... He never "opened the door"...It was always "He opened the door. It was a door made of exquisite craftsmanship from the pre-gothic era which harkened back to the days when Sir Chippendale arose from the North to free the Dandeburys. It's polish glistened in the soothing sunset like the last tango of the bourgeois."... ![]()

Wow. The best television story ever was Buffy.
But as far as books go I don't think I could possibly pick a favorite. There are just so many really great ones from so many different genres. A big favorite is I am Legend which I can't wait to see on the big screen this December. Wicked was an excellent book and musical. I collect all of King's work and It would probably be my favorite perhaps because it was my introduction to King as a young girl and it scared the crap out of me. I read it while babysitting on a New Year's Eve in a strange house. Some of his newer works are real hit and miss but I loved Cell and Blaze and all the older stuff. Wasn't thrilled with Lisey's Story. I'm also a big fan of anthropology stories. And I enjoy pretty much any type of alien lure. I recently read a really good book called The Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll. But yeah I don't think I could pick my favorite book ever. I'd have trouble narrowing it down to my favorite 100 books ever. |

Did you ever see the Buffy episode where they killed off her mother?
Holy cow that was incredible! Even if a person is not a fan of the show, and doesn't know anything about the show, I would recommend that episode. (At least for those who are interested in seeing dramatic reactions to a person's death. Possibly great for a "Six Feet Under" fan.) I heard it never got any awards because the nomination for the episode wasn't submitted in time. Most of the Buffy episodes are admittedly akin to supernatural 90210 stuff. But THAT episode? Somebody had to be the inspiration for that episode. It was incredible. |
