More than two dozen students were slapped with criminal charges in connection with a food fight in the cafeteria at a Chicago charter school.

CBS 2's Pamela Jones was there Friday when the kids got released from police custody.

The students were caught in chaos at Perspectives Charter Schools Calumet Campus. Police arrested 25 students ranging in age from 11 to 15 after a food fight broke out in the cafeteria Thursday.

"The next thing you know I saw a tray fly up in the air, and then I saw an orange fly," student Jordan Grevious said. 'Then, I heard the words 'food fight.'"

Of course the parents and students are couching this in racial terms, but the fact of the matter is these kids did something stupid and now its time to pay the piper.

The three that were injured probably didn't enjoy it, at least in retrospect. I wonder if there's any judgement being exercised to separate the arrested kids into - oh, say two groups - one group with kids that threw vegetables, and another with kids that through trays, knives, and forks.....

You are right. The schools no tolerance policies make it hard for administrators and teachers to discipline fairly.
Same way as in adult life. If you defend yourself against a guy who hits you, you both go to jail. The exception being if he accosted you inyour home or property.
