Default Tips for Around the House

I found these tips handy. Usually I am familiar with kitchen tips (I've been cooking for more years than some of you have been alive, and have read so many women's magazines the wood could have been used to make full scale replicas of the Nina, the Pinta and the old Santa Maria! ), but I hadn't heard of some of these. Neat.
bananas -
Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.
If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
Peel a banana from the bottom and you won’t have to pick the little ’stringy things’ off of it.
That’s how the primates do it

peppers-
Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating raw.

Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Easy Deviled Eggs- I had heard of this one , but it bears repeating-
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done for an easy clean up.[/b]

Frosting-
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

I'm going to try this-
No More Mosquitoes-
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket.
It will keep the mosquitoes away.

This one is for people who actually care about dirt others can't see
-Flexible vacuum: To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Getting ready for those holidays!
Measuring Cups-
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

I'm definitely going to try that mosquito one. They get big enough to drive SUV's around here!

I've got one for you to help keep mosquitoes numbers down if you know where they are breeding. (And if it isn't just because you live near a swamp.) Pour vegetable oil into standing water where mosquitoes are breeding. It will spread out over the top of the water and suffocate the larva and some of the adults.

When I was growing up, lots of farmers around used old engine oil for this but it pollutes and fouls the waterways. Vegetable oil, on the other hand, works almost as well and biodegrades without harming anything much but the mosquitoes.
