Default Skipping Towards Reality

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a pleasure to banter with you regarding all sorts of issues. I have enjoyed my time here, but it is officially time for me to take a break. I will be offline through the election. Instead of talking about it, I've decided to do something about it.

This election is far too important for me to sit on the sidelines. It is past time for me to act upon my beliefs therefore I have volunteered for three campaigns here in town in addition to working in the local party headquarters.

I will be back after the election to debate all the awesome goodies you want to dish on.

Justin...

I am sure Obama appreciates your efforts. And so do I. You remind me to do more. But I can't this year. But I will be here when you get back. Unless the wrong guy is elected followed by the apocalypse. Like is predicted every election.

Wow... I forgot how crazy local politics were. I've not been phonebanking or canvassing since 00. It's amazing the people and responses you run into. I'm shocked at some of the things people say on both sides.

But, I am determined. I believe in the cause. I've prayed for guidance. I've prayed for a win.

Okay, so I'm spending my evenings working. Phone banking for Obama mostly with a mass of data entry at the end. I have called people that I've known for YEARS, and I'm just shocked at their responses. I'm not hurt that they are voting for McCain. I'm not drinking nearly enough of the kool-aid for that. I'm hurt by the reasons they are voting for McCain. Most of it tracks back to bigotry in one form or another. "I'm just not comfortable voting for one of those negros." "He's a muslim." "He's the secret terrorist leader." "He's the antichrist."

I'm sad, but most of all, I'm ashamed. I'm ashamed to be so closely tied with people who cannot see past the color of a mans skin or his name. I'm ashamed that we haven't moved beyond that.

Sorry, this is my rant for the evening...

I think I'll rant more often to give you a taste of what the front lines are like.

BTW: Guess who might be going to Denver?!

Congrats, debateman if you do get to go. Uh...could you wear a Political Wrinkles T-shirt (quick let me go make one with my magic markers).

The unknown always scares people, but what you have related saddens me a little. I am not voting for Obama because I don't share his views for America, but I have had people tell me similar stories and then found myself defending him although I am not planning to vote for him.

If he was even close to what I want ideologically, I would vote for him maybe to prove I'm not prejudiced. But you know that would be wrong too.
Unfortunately, in the dog-eat-dog campaign process, every advantage is taken. It is truly like a war.
But I always found I learned from every experience good or bad, so keep the faith my friend, and do what you believe is right.
Great to hear from you.
Feel free to vent here anytime!

It's anecdotes like that that actually hurt me due to the REAL reasons he shouldn't be on the ballot...

Two people can come to the very same conclusion but use different paths to get there...And the path of the silly-star chromasome?... I want no part of...
