Default Another case of "Ya just can't make this stuff up!"

The Skynews.com headline reads "The Simpsons Pulled From Venezuela TV". The Venezuelan equivalent of our FCC says it has received an unspecified number of unspecified complaints about The Simpsons cartoon, which was being aired weekdays at 11:am. They stated that the cartoon could (talk about noncommittal) violate national regulations prohibiting "messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents".

Ah, I guess Venezuela has some sort of vastly different scheduling system for their public education system because as far as I know, and I'm pretty sure this is true in most first and even second world countries, most impressionable good little boys and girls are usually in school at that hour (as opposed to being home and in front of the boob-tube during prime-time programming when The Simpsons is usually aired).

While station spokeswoman [read:toady] Elba Guillen publicly concurred with the government censors, behind the scenes the station's general manager, Perez Nahim, was probably not very happy about the little dictator, Hugo 'the only thing missing is an abbreviated moustache' Chávez's latest farcical Fascist move to de-Americanize his county's mass-media - based on the simple fact that, according to Mr. Nahim, the world renowned cartoon was generating the "highest levels of viewership for that morning timetable in the history of the channel". (I'm guessing The View is only available to those Venezuelans that can afford their own satellite dish.)

And while the station's management has yet to decide whether it will air The Simpsons in a different timeslot, they have in fact decided (and I'm sure they've cleared this with Herr Chávez) to replace the '11:am inappropriate' cartoon with - wait for it - Baywatch Hawaii, staring the now (hopefully) recovering alcoholic David Hasselhoff and the much more age/educationally appropriate Pamela Anderson - as world renowned as Marge Simpson in her own right - but for a couple of very different reasons.

Most unfair trade since Winchester replaced Frank Burns...

So that's what it's like to live in a communist dictatorship!

'Bay Watch' is kind of an old series, isn't it?
BTW Does anyone know if Pamela Anderson is any relation to Lonnie Anderson who used to play on 'WKRP in Cincinnati' and was married to Burt Reynolds for awhile?

Anderson is the real name both were born with, but Loni's American and Pam is Canadian, so very doubtful...

saltwn,

When you asked "Bay Watch' is kind of an old series, isn't it?" my first thought was, that's a rather odd question coming from God's Grandma. I would've assumed that anything related to television, an human invention of the late nineteenth century, would be considered relatively nascent to someone of your, ahem, pre-primal generation.

As to your question of whether Pamela Anderson (married to Kid Rock for almost four whole months and Tommy Lee for just over three years) and Lonnie Anderson have a shared genealogy: Common surnames aside, aren't you afraid someone from the BBCCLU (Buxom Blonde Celebrities Civil Liberties Union) will accuse you of buxom blonde celebrity profiling!?

Caveat lector,
Joe

cnredd,

Oh contraire, mon frére cnredd! You've obviously mistaken my good natured, satirical wit for its harsher cousin, a cynical retort. In fact, if this medium allowed you to look over my shoulder as I replied to Ms. saltwn you would've seen that not only did I use my dullest quill but my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek the entire time.

Ars gratia artis,
Joe

I like your style, Joseph Crowley (irrespective of what they may say about you behind your back).
God's Grandma likes Emenem, Bach, Hank Williams, B.B. King....
She dispenses forgiveness in abundance, but watch out for her bad side. She doesn't have to wait anymore for premenstrual syndrome . She can now go from zero to BIG bit__ faster than the speed of light!
Seriously, I appreciate classic film. But, although I love history, I don't live in the past!
As for Pam and Lonnie, I never really saw Pam that much unless it was a spot on some news broadcast. I did admire Lonnie's wit and beauty. She was originally a brunette who found more work after she dyed her hair. She was reportedly a genetic wonder. Didn't exercise that much and ate whatever she wanted!
I really did think they might be related. Both overly large boobs. That does run in families sometimes.
If they want to sue me for profiling they'll have to arrest all the blond jokesters first!
