Default My computer is now a mutt

Well, it is now official (or semi-official, anyway): I have a computer that is a mutt.

Not just a mongrel. But a mutt.

Just yesterday, I purchased a Logitech keyboard. (The previous keyboard--which was probably 25 years old, or more--was skipping; I needed to re-type many letters eight or 10 times.)

It was originally a Dell system; and I still have a Dell monitor.

I have an Acer CPU. (Yes, it is a desktop.)

And I have a Staples mouse. (No, I have no idea just who manufactures the mouse for Staples. I just know what brand name is imprinted on it.)

But just as long as it works...

When you're into PC building like me, every PC is a mutt.

Corsair case, AMD processor, ASUS motherboard, Nvidia MSI video card, Samsung SSD, Seagate HDD from a decade ago, EVGA power supply, G.Skill RAM, and Logitech keyboard, headset, and thumb trackball mouse.

Used to have one of those old mechanical keyboards from IBM, but it bit the dust a couple of years ago. Kinda miss the chunky clickety clack of the keystrokes.

Just because you originally bought a Dell computer, does not mean that Dell built all of it. Chances are, Dell built the frame and some of the components, but I would guess that Intel built the processor, someone else built the monitor, key board and mouse. The sound card and many of the internal components were also most likely purchased by Dell and just assembled in their factory.

In short, you computer was always a mutt, but just wrapped in a nice package with Dell putting their logo on the visible components.

Pretty much how cars work...You buy a Chevy with Firestone tires, Alpine sound system, and AC Delco brakes...

In fact, the automaker has a long list of over 70 suppliers and a number are vital to producing GM vehicles. Some of them include SL Corp., Lakeside Plastics, Johnson Controls, Grand Traverse Plastics, Dynamic Manufacturing Co., Compuware, Sundram Fasteners Limited, and Van-Rob Corp.

Haha, I was just reminded of the second computer I 'built'. I caught the IT department where I worked getting ready to throw away 3 nonworking desktops and convinced them to give me boxes. I managed to make a working computer out of those parts. It wasn't fancy but it was good enough for my children to learn how to use a computer and play their simple games on.
Oh, and one of the crazy things about that, one of the computers was previously used by Human Resources and had all kinds private information on the working hard drive. Being the honest person that I am, I deleted the data. These days, no company would allow a hard drive to go free.

Only if you are dumb enough to buy a Chevy.

Just kidding, I drove an old Silverado for about 6 years on just 7 seven cylinders after the rings on one cylinder failed and it wasn't worth rebuilding the engine on a $1000 truck.
