Default Does eating well help?

I think that this qualifies as being bizarre. At least, I consider it to be.

A little over a week ago, both my wife and I had our blood drawn, in preparation for our semi-annual physical.

The target number for triglycerides is 150 or below.

My wife--who is very careful about her eating habits--came in at 258.

On the other hand, I think that a can of chili, a can of tamales, or a can of corned beef hash--especially with lots of chocolate for dessert--is a truly fine meal.

My own triglycerides measured 88.

(I think I heard my wife's muttering something under her breath, about just hating me...)

"Does eating well help?"

yes.
But...

And when you say "watches what she eats" what do you mean by that?
is she more of a low fat person,
a no carbs, a low protein or high protein eater.
Mostly veggies?
Does she eat good fats like coconut oil?
"eating well" make a difference but what "eating well" really is, is another story.

and um, Your wife says she hates you now.... just now?

Apple cider vinegar, even in pills, will help, neutralizing the body Ph will help ( 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in water twice a day), lots of water, aloe juice.

Women process foods differently then men, nutrient needs are different, even after menopause. What doesn't effect you, food wise, can be bad for her.

If we don't hear from you for a month or two, we'll know exactly what your wife said.

I used apple cider vinegar everyday... the health benefits of this stuff has been amazing for me.

This is a fair question.

She is not actually on a specific diet. Rather, she just eats well: vegetables, fruits, a little meat--and not too much for dessert.

By contrast, I eat horribly. (For instance, no fruits whatsoever; and no vegetables except beans and potatoes. I refer to myself as a "meats and sweets" person.)

Perhaps my body simply adjusted to the abuse long ago, and no longer rebels against it...

I can only say, you don't know what it is until it bites on the butt.

I guess, depending on your POV, if nothing has slammed you yet, then carry on. I recommend against it, but that is not for me to decide.

Of course eating well helps....

Eating clean with simple protein and carb combinations along with exercise is key to living healthy....

Mix in fresh fruits, veggies and nuts instead of fried fast food....

Reduce use of "processed" foods. Eliminate anything that contains MSG which will be found in almost every "convenience" packaged food. Cook from scratch whenever possible.

Reduce salt intake and cured meats.

Average less than four ounces of red meat a day. Cook with olive oils whenever possible.

Avoid Fructose and never ever consume or drink diet "anything" unless you are diabetic. Nothing wrong with supplemental vitamins. They are much like fertilizers for your lawn. Not required but you grass will be greener.

Eat with diversity, nothing in excess, but make exceptions for Wines and Dark Chocolate which are gifts from the gods.

See your doctor at least once a year and tell him "EVERYTHING." Do not wait until you are sick. Early detections will extend you life , if not actually save it from time to time. Doesn't hurt to see a Chiropractor once in a while either.

I have practiced this since childhood. At 73, I have lived longer than both parents, a younger brother who did not heed my advice, and all four grandparents. I am the oldest and two of my younger brothers have had heart attacks. Not me. I plan to eventually die in bed from absolutely nothing.
