We've gotten the scum puppy utilities scam call. Your payment has not been received and we are turning off your electric today unless you pay with a pre paid credit card.

Considering the number of locations we have, things can drop through the cracks on occasion, but a pre-paid credit card? After 5 minutes on the phone with these people, and noticing that the 'supervisor' I demanded to speak with sounded just like the guy who called in the first place, fire alarms rang out. Told them to go ahead and cut it off, hung up, called the utility in question, who confirmed the scam. Next day, there were headlines in the local paper that they had numerous calls on the subject, and one or two people who got hit for about $2000 each.

I'd like 5 minutes in a locked room with these people with a phone book.

One I got looked like a court order-came in the mail with a number to call. Several people had already reported this I found, but not before I called and tried to find out what the crime was (I don't even drive or have a license so I was confused what it could be). I finally told them I would call back and meanwhile called the court house. That's when I found out for sure it was a scam.

I'll hold your coat and guard the door while you're in that room with them.
