If we have more successful black people, a lot of the current problems will go away.
I believe that is true to a point. Affirmative action programs over the past 30 years were supposed to make amends for that. However, all it did was help to solidify a sense of entitlement based upon race.

I put the blame on the culture that has been perpetuated in the inner city communities. The culture that rejects societal norms for the shear fact that it was the "white mans" culture. Having a two parent household somehow became white culture. Add in to that the fact that the Federal Government and their Social programs made it economically beneficial to have children out of wedlock and live on government handouts. That along with Government funded housing (the projects) and the cycle becomes generational.

It takes ambition and the ability to resist pear pressure to pull ones self out of this quagmire. Those that reject the welfare culture and seek a good education, generally have opportunities to succeed. It can be done, but it requires a desire to do better than what is presented to them as normal.

I grew up in Columbus Ohio and attended school there in the 70's. During that time, busing was implemented in the Columbus public school system. Some kids in our neighborhood were shipped across town daily to attend school while some of the kids from other districts were bused into our schools. It was pretty stupid if you think about it.

Anyway, what we saw at the time was that the kids that were bused in from the predominately black neighborhoods, generally were the ones that would skip out of school and when there, were trouble makers. Not all of them, but a select few that really stood out in their resistance to authority. They would openly shame other kids that were bused in with them, if they were studious and cared about their grades. They would equate doing well in school as conforming to the white culture.

At the time, I didn't understand this. Not all of the kids bused in were black, and it wasn't only the blacks that would cause trouble. But of those that did, the ones that seemed to be the leaders of the group, were black. And they were generally the worst of the bunch.

Now what was strange to me about the whole busing thing was that our school was pretty well integrated to begin with. There was a mix of white, black and a few foreign kids already in our district. So we were accustomed to kids of other races that we had grown up with. I wasn't sure at the time as to why some of the kids that were bused across town to the predominately black schools, were black themselves. What was really strange was playing them in football. There were kids on the other teams with whom we grew up playing together. It made for strange times.
