A catch-all thread to post random stories in the news that aren't quite important enough to warrant their own.

I don't know what's worse - the police arresting a woman for not returning a movie nine years ago or the world finding out you actually watched Monster-In-Law.

A Woman Actually Spent a Night In Jail For Failing to Return a Movie She Rented 9 Years Ago | TheBlaze.com

A South Carolina woman was arrested this week and spent a night in jail for failing to return a movie she rented in 2005.

Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, rented “Monster-In-Law” nine years ago and failed to return it to the now out-of-business Dalton Videos in Pickens County, according to WHNS-TV.

Now, she reportedly faces a misdemeanor for failure to return the video cassette. Finley was arrested Thursday after a warrant was found for her arrest when she went to the sheriff’s office to report another crime, WYFF-TV reported.

According to the warrant, the 27-year-old was sent letters to return the video, but never responded.

She adamantly denies those charges and directed a scathing message toward the sheriff’s department.

“It’s obvious that Pickens County has nothing better to do. I fully intend on fighting this, it’s ridiculous that I had this happen to me,” she told WHNS-TV.

Am I the only one who was hopin' a UFC fighter would have been in the store while drunk and high on PCP?

Abusive Boyfriend Picked the Wrong Corner Store to Beat and Choke His Girlfriend In | Video | TheBlaze.com

Bystanders in a California convenience store tackled a man who was choking his girlfriend and restrained him until law enforcement officials were able to sort out the situation. And it was all caught on video.

The incident began Wednesday morning outside the Flower Street Market in Bakersfield, Calif., when the man police identified as Aidan Jose Cruz, 21, began arguing with his girlfriend. The argument soon escalated to assault, forcing the woman to flee inside the nearby shop for help.

He followed the woman, whose name will not be released because she is the victim of domestic violence, and resumed beating her.

At first, as is evident from the store’s security footage, bystanders were hesitant to come to the woman’s aid. But after a few moments, customers inside the shop grabbed hold of the suspect and brought him to the ground.

A copy of store’s security footage was uploaded to the Internet on Wednesday.

“This happened in my store this morning,” the video’s description reads. He “beats his girlfriend outside of the store and she runs in asking for help.”

The store clerk called the police and deputies arrived almost immediately.

“Deputies were dispatched to the market regarding an assault in progress,” Kern County Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruittr told TheBlaze Friday. “The suspect at one point had his hands around her neck and started choking her and then began striking her in the head.”

“When deputies arrived, the suspect was being held down on the ground by several customers inside the store,” he said. “Deputies were able to handcuff him and take him into custody without incident.”

The victim sustained no serious injuries, Pruittr told TheBlaze.

Cruz is still in custody for spousal battery and has a hearing scheduled in superior court for Friday afternoon. His bail has been set at $50,000.

Yes, please.

This could possibly be the most ground-breaking invention for stoners everywhere.

Could Doritos-crusted mozzarella stick be the next biggest thing? | Fox News

Could this be the next big mashup to take the country by storm?

Doritos lover and 7-Eleven patron Kevin Cobb stumbled upon an usual combination at a D.C.-area 7-Eleven: mozzarella sticks coated with Doritos flavoring.

“You think they’re naturally crunchy, but they weren’t at all. They tasted like nacho cheese Doritos filled with queso,” he told ABC News. “But the consistency was kind of like a regular cheese stick, except filled with nacho cheese. I definitely got my cheese fix for the day.”

He took to Twitter about his discovery--what a 7-Eleven employee called Doritos Loaded --in a series of excited tweets.

A 7-Eleven representative told Yahoo! that Doritos Loaded is “a product that is in test," and that it was “too soon to really talk about it." An employee at the store location said she knows of two other 7-Eleven stores in Washington, D.C. selling the cheesy snack.

If the success of the Doritos Locos Tacos is any indication, these new bites could be a hit with Doritos lovers everywhere.

Like we needed another reason not to go to Utah.

These machines will turn into some carnival-like game where buddies will get wasted and bet on who can blow a higher BAL.

Utah proposal would put Breathalyzer-type devices in bars | Fox News

SALT LAKE CITY – Bargoers weighing whether they're sober enough to take the wheel could soon have a tool to help make that decision.

Breathalyzers and similar devices could pop up in more bars across Utah under a coming proposal from Draper Republican Rep. Greg Hughes. The measure is still incubating, but it aims to cut down on drunk driving in Utah.

"It makes good sense," he said Friday.

Setting up the machines alongside pool tables and juke boxes would especially help younger drinkers who are still learning their limits, Hughes said.

The measure won't require any bar to install the testing devices, he said, but it would ensure businesses aren't held responsible for customers who fail a breath test but decide to drive anyway.

Some bar owners hesitate to back the measure, questioning how well the devices read the level of alcohol circling the bloodstream.

The devices can cost as much as $1,000. To date, nightspots that have such meters generally affix them to walls and charge about $2 for a reading, and patrons often wander over for a laugh.

Hughes said his plan would make using the machines optional for drinkers, and police would not gain access to any data collected.

Bob McCarthy owns the Garage on Beck, a Salt Lake City bar on a stretch of highway lined with chain fences and smoke stacks. McCarthy on Friday morning questioned the accuracy of the machines. If customers were to register a lower level of alcohol than they expected, he worries, it could embolden them to drive when they normally wouldn't.

"Somebody could feel they shouldn't be driving but the number says 0.08, which is right on the border, so maybe they'll go and they shouldn't go," he said.

He advises customers, "Just know how much you've had to drink and whether you're OK to drive."

The most recent data available show that in 2010, drunk driving accounted for about 30 percent of all traffic deaths nationwide. In Utah, that percentage hovered around 10 percent during the same year. Utah DUI arrests have dipped in recent years, but lawmakers say the state should do more to prevent those numbers from climbing again.

Hughes said he hopes to have the bill ready next week.

"It's not illegal to drink in the state of Utah," Hughes told reporters earlier in the week. "It's not illegal to drink and operate a vehicle" with an alcohol level below the legal cutoff. But, he added, "How does a consumer know where they're at, exactly? I think it makes sense."

Are you sure that she wasn't arrested just for renting "Monster in Law?" Or perhaps for returning the movie covered in puke?

They are heroes of American history whose faces adorn our dollar bills and whose names are attached to cities, universities, streets and national holidays.

But the Founding Fathers and Mothers, those people we have immortalized as cultural icons central to our nation’s birth, were people, too. And, as such, they lived, loved, and misbehaved just like the rest of us mere mortals.

While doing research for my novel, "The Traitor’s Wife," on Benedict and Peggy Arnold, and their attempt to end the American Revolution, I discovered that there was much more to the infamous tale than just Benedict Arnold’s decision to turn traitor. Benedict Arnold had a back story of his own, yes. But even more interesting was his wife’s back story.

Doubt it.
They had a good thing when they briefly had these on the market.
Now you can't find them.
