Repairman fixes military wife's broken furnace for $1 | Fox News

When a military wife’s furnace broke down, a Pennsylvania repairman stepped in and fixed the malfunctioning unit at a huge discount.

He charged her $1.

“He said that the $1 was a joke and to thank my husband for his service,” Bridget Stevens wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post that has gone viral.

Paul Betlyn of Moon Township’s Betlyn Heating and Cooling said the job normally would have cost about $150, but he gave Stevens, a mother of two, a “deployment discount.”

“I’m not the hero here,” Betlyn told ABC News. “The deployed, they’re the heroes.”

Her husband, Bobby, is deployed overseas with the National Guard. So when she arrived home to a cold house one evening earlier this month, she called Betlyn, expecting to get an answering machine.

“Ultimately, Paul, the owner, answered and was very patient as he walked me through different things to do to try to get it back on,” Stevens wrote in the Facebook post.

But when none of Betlyn’s suggestions fixed the issue, he drove to Stevens’ house to look at the furnace himself.

“As he was working on the furnace, we got to talking about Bobby and the deployment,” Stevens wrote. “I had mentioned in passing that I tried to figure it out with my husband, but since he’s deployed and couldn’t see it, he wouldn’t know what to do.”

Stevens said she was “apprehensive” about the cost. Then Betlyn handed her the bill.

“I was completely overwhelmed and in shock when Paul handed me the slip,” Stevens told ABC News. “I didn’t really know what to say, and I still have a hard time finding the words to truly express my appreciation.”

Betlyn said he was just continuing a family tradition.

“My grandfather was a milkman during the Great Depression and many times he’d go to the door and the woman didn’t have any money for milk. But the baby was crying in the background. So he’d put the milk on the table,” Betlyn told ABC News. “And when I heard about Bridget with her husband being deployed…I put the milk on the table.”

Betlyn has since started a “Military Deployment Kisses Fund” on gofundme.com. The aim is to raise money to send families overseas to meet with loved ones during lengthy deployments. He’s raised nearly $1,500 in three days.

Yeah it hit me big time. A major medical incident in our family. We were the recipient of that milk when I was a young boy. Today you find me buying the person behind me their meal so often because of it.

Porn at funerals now. I'm pretty stoked 'bout this.

That's about 3 more minutes than I need to "finish."

Porn film accidentally shown at funeral of father and baby who died in a car crash | Fox News

The grieving family of a father and baby killed in a car crash were horrified when hardcore porn was accidentally played at the funeral.

Simon Lewis, 33, and Simon Lewis Jr died after a head-on collision on New Year’s Eve on Lamby Way in Cardiff, Wales.

Lewis’ wife Amanda, who was also in the car, was pregnant with Simon Lewis Jr. She gave birth by emergency caesarean section three days after the crash, but the boy did not survive.

The couple, who was married for about seven years, also had a daughter.

Hundreds of mourners were left shocked after the video was played during the service at Cardiff’s Thornhill Crematorium on Wednesday.

“It was absolutely disgusting, the priest turned around to play the video of Simon, but instead a hard-core pornography video was played on the big screen,” one mourner told Wales Online.

“Everyone was in shock, Simon’s father-in-law was furious, he shouted at the staff present and told them to turn it off.

“It took them nearly four minutes to turn it off, people couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

“To the priest’s credit he handled it extremely well. He apologized on behalf of Cardiff Council and said that in 30 years of doing the job, he had never seen such filth.”

Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe, who led the service, described the moment the footage appeared on screen.

“I look at my congregations instead of the TV screen, but when I heard this noise and members of the congregation moving towards the screen, I realized something was wrong,” he said.

“This was not what anybody could have ever imagined or wanted. Thankfully an engineer came to fix it and turn it off. It seems to be some kind of electronic accident.”

Cardiff Council, which runs the crematorium, has apologized for the incident and said it will be launching an investigation.

“There were four television screens used to display visual tributes as part of this funeral service,” a spokeswoman said.

“The television screen which showed the inappropriate content was recently installed, replacing a screen which was broken.

“We are trying to establish if the new screen — which is a smart television — could have accepted or picked up a broadcast by accident via Bluetooth or across a Wi-Fi network. The other three screens, which aren’t smart TVs, were unaffected.”

The spokeswoman said the screen will remain disconnected until audio visual engineers carry out a thorough investigation.

“We would like to take this opportunity to send our sincere apologies to the family and to the mourners at the funeral,” she added.

Funeral directors James Summers & Son have also apologized for the incident.

Meanwhile, a man is due to face court charged with causing the deaths by dangerous driving of Lewis and his son.

Kyle Kennedy, 29, of Cardiff, will appear at the city’s crown court next month.

German mayor blasts far-right, reveals porn browsing

Quote:
The mayor of a small German town thought he was making a serious point about the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany party — but was revealing his Internet porn browsing history.

Thomas Köppl, the mayor of Quickborn near Hamburg, was taking part in a debate on the AfD and used a screenshot of the German constitution to make his point, German newspaper Bild reported. But he had forgotten to close other, XXX-rated tabs on his Internet browser for pages with titles such as “Punishment porn videos” and “German slut punished.”

And the Douchebag of the Month Award goes to - CVS!

CVS are already douchebags for deciding not to sell cigarettes anymore.

Army veteran fired from CVS after trying to stop robbery | Fox News

When two suspects tried robbing a Maryland CVS on Friday, Army veteran Joe Morici sprang into action.

And it cost him his job.

Morici, who served seven years in the Army, including a stint in Afghanistan, was fired from his management job at a Beltsville CVS because he intervened and tried to catch the men, FOX5 reported.

But Morici said his reactions were purely based on instinct when two men tried robbing the CVS pharmacy during his shift.

He quickly told cashiers to call 911 and helped an elderly man out of the store before locking the doors, preventing the suspects from leaving. Then he confronted them.

“The two kids ran into the door, which was closed now, and Joe got one of them and had him,” Chick Hernandez, a customer in the store at the time, told FOX5. “The kid, he had said to his partner, ‘Shoot him.’…And then Joe said, ‘I’ve been in the military far too long. You don’t have anything.’”

It turned out there was no gun, though one of the suspects held a screwdriver.

“I don’t really know that they didn’t really have one,” Morici said. “I just kind of assumed.”

Morici grabbed the screwdriver, but eventually the men got away.

When Morici’s boss arrived, however, Morici said he was told he was being terminated because of his actions.

“My boss, when he came in to deliver the news, he was sick to his stomach,” Morici said. “He didn’t want to, but he didn’t have a choice.”

In a statement to FOX5, CVS said it would “not comment on specific security procedures or polices as we do not want to undermine them.”

Morici said since news of his heroics went public he’s received numerous job offers and interview opportunities. He’s also applied for a position with the Prince George’s County Police Department.

“My Facebook has been blowing up from people all over the country just thanking me and reposting it,” Morici said. “I’ve got people from Wichita, Kansas to the Philippines. People back home are calling me. It blew up way bigger than I ever thought it would.”
