Aim to Win

Quote:
(21 February 2004, Ottawa, Canada) Ameer, a second-year engineering student at Carleton University, was celebrating his 20th birthday with friends in his 11th-floor apartment when they embarked on a spitting contest. His two friends had already made their marks. Ameer thought he could use his engineering skills to improve his performance. A quick mental calculation of trajectory, projectile velocity, and wind speed indicated that winning required more than a simple "stand and spit" technique. Ameer took a running start, flew over the balcony railing, and plunged to his death.

"It was purely accidental," said Ottawa police, "momentum carried him beyond." The building's security guard heard the thud. "He was one of the smartest guys I ever met in my life," the guard said. "He had a maturity beyond his age."
Momentum-Inertia - do matter...

So let me get this straight...

A guy get involved in a spitting contest, falls to his death while attempting to spit, and the guard says "He's one of the smartest guys I ever met in my life."??????...

I don't think that guard has met a whole helluva lot of people...

Police: Couple nurtured virtual child while real baby starvedFrom Andrew Salmon for CNN
March 7, 2010 8:21 a.m. EST

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- Police have arrested a South Korean couple whose toddler starved to death while they were raising a virtual child online, authorities said.

The couple fed their 3-month-old daughter once a day between marathon stretches in a local Internet cafe, where they were raising a virtual child in the fantasy role-playing game Prius Online, police told local reporters Friday.

Prius Online is a 3-D game in which players nurture an online companion, Anima, a young girl with mysterious powers who grows and increases her skills as the game progresses.

Police have not identified the 41-year-old father and 25-year-old mother, who lived in Suwon, a suburb south of Seoul. But the father apologized, speaking to reporters.

"I wish that she hadn't got sick and that she will live well in heaven forever. And as the father, I am sorry," he said.

The baby reportedly died five months ago.

South Korea has one of the world's fastest broadband networks. Seoul has won international awards for e-governance. Online gaming teams are sponsored by major conglomerates and 24-hour, high-speed Internet cafes, known as PC Bangs, dot every urban neighborhood.

Police said the couple had lost their jobs and used the game as an escape from reality, especially after the birth of their premature baby.

"They instead played an online game in which they raised a virtual character so as to escape from reality, which led to the death of their real baby," Chung Jin-won, a police officer in Suwon, told Yonhap News Agency.

"South Korea remains a very conservative society so people who fall outside the norm can come under severe stress and pressure," said Michael Breen, the Seoul-based author of "The Koreans."

"The Internet has provided such people with a paradise to escape to and simply get lost in."

Tennessee Pee

Quote:
(mid-1980s, Tennessee) A mile down the road from Middle Tennessee State University, a couple of young, very drunk MTSU frat boys climbed a barbed wire fence that was intended to keep lesser mortals out of an electric substation. One frat boy climbed to the top of a transformer. That alone was an obviously bad idea, but it got worse when he urinated on the transformer on which he stood. As if electrocution via genitalia wasn't bad enough, consider his motivation to pee: a wasp nest "target" attached to the transformer. Needless to say, the wasps were the lesser of his worries. He did not live long.
A piss poor idea...

When I bought my first home in the country I had 6 dogs, so I and friends were putting in a fence topped with an dog safe electric wire.

My little brother stopped by and had to pee, we had just grounded it and my friend had went to turn it on.
And my little brother did his business out doors and the stream hit the wire, he jumped back and said ouch... He got the shock the dogs would have gotten if they had jumped up on the fence.

Turns out the dogs wouldn't come near the fence to be let into the yard. So I shut it off.

We all had a good laugh... True story, I had forgotten.

We had hogs growing up and ran them in a field. We kept 'em in with an electric fence. When we had a friend over, we'd take him out in the field where the grass was pretty tall (tall enough to hide the wire) and then stop to pee. We'd pee between the wires, they'd always pee on the wires.

My brilliant brother took direct aim at the wire 4.5' off the ground, not knowing the results.

Woman allegedly hits sister with toilet tank lid

IOWA CITY, Iowa -Iowa City police arrested a woman who allegedly attacked her sister with the lid of a toilet tank. Nitasha Johnson, of Iowa City, was arrested early Sunday and was charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury and interference with official acts. According to police, Johnson removed the lid and hit her sister during a fight. Authorities said the sister suffered an injured foot and finger.
Johnson was taken to the Johnson County jail. She remained in jail on Monday on a $1,500 bond. Jail officials did not know if she had hired an attorney.
Maybe it all started because she was splashing "toilete water" on and the lid fell in, then in a delirium she attacked her sister.
At least that be would be a defense.
