Ok, I miss stated, Turns out Roosevelt had the biggest growth in GDP ever... Clinton came in third.... But unfortunately Reagan wasn't second...

The Top Three GDP growth ratings are all Under Democrats.. Reagan didn't come close to 8%.. So I'm not sure where that number came from. Clinton also created 23 million jobs, and he didn't kill unions to drive unemployment up so there is where your Strong Middle class came from....

GDP Growth

Kennedy/Johnson 5.2%

Clinton 3.7%

Carter 3.4%

Reagan 3.3%

Nixon/Ford 2.7%

Eisenhower 2.3%

GHW Bush 1.9%

Truman 1.8%

GW Bush 1.7%

Economy In Perspective - GDP

Obama isn't on there yet because he hasn't served a full term... So don't worry about bringing his numbers in the mix, I know they are going to be low but could change in a second term.

How is it that Obama is a continuation of Clinton?
He wants to pass a jobs bill that will put people back to work so they can afford to make their own way, but since he can't get congress to help him he is forced to expand the welfare state because unlike republicans he's not a cold hearted person who would rather see people eating from trash cans... Yeah I'm gonna get upset over that.... please.

Yes he did, under a republican controlled congress he failed to use his veto power but Clinton and key legislators have changed their views and advocated DOMA's repeal. Obama instructed his DOJ to stop defending it because it is unconstitutional .

And mostly what I was talking about was economic policy. Obama has basically the same economic ideology as Clinton , He believes in a Strong Middle class, He believes Billionaires and Millionaires should pay the same tax rates as the rest of us, he believes that spending on infrastructure is the right plan to create jobs and turn the economy around, and he believes that we're already the strongest Military in the world and don't need to spend more on defense than we spend on everything else.

Willard on the other hand believes the polar opposite, you know the way back into the ditch.

Clinton had the benefit of the Reagan economy to fall back on. He didn't do anything special. Obama has recreated the Carter economy.

Yeah right, more of that right wing math huh?...

No he didn't do anything special, only erased the huge deficits and debt that Reagan accumulated with his VP in tow , Created more jobs, had lower unemployment, higher GDP growth, plus Welfare reform.. and he lowered spending on defense . Nothing special...

I call it republican math. Reagan boosted the economy by putting us in debt. We used to be a creditor nation before the gypper came in office.

I too misstated the actual peak GDP under Reagan was 10.9% second quarter of 1983 after the second phase of tax cuts kicked in. Annual growth for the year was around 6.4%.

The Reagan Information Page:GDP
Once again you use summarized numbers along with sweeping generalities to support your claim. The page you link averages GDP growth for the President's term obscuring factors such as the time required for tax cuts to take effect.

Of course a more rational examination of Obama's performance on the economy reveals his terrible failure. The great cure all stimulus has been spent but GDP growth is anemic.

So the choices are reelect Obama or get dinner from a trash can. The fact is we have a record number of Americans on food stamps under Obama, eating dinner at the Federal dumpster. The way to correct that is not to continue the failed policies of the past 3 years in a second term. It is to let an accomplished businessman build an environment for prosperity.

OMG that is the most amazing load of crap I have seen in a number of years...lol So you take the 40 quarters that reagan is credited with and pull out the single biggest number you could find and you suddenly think that means anything at all?... Dude.. that is lame. Figure the GDP Growth over his 2 terms in Office and you see the numbers I posted show that Reagan was not as great as everyone thought. Not to mention the fact that under his 2 terms he also tripled the national debt and increased the deficits and he did it without needing a war.. go figure.

No I used the Average numbers over the course of the individual terms... and Reagan was not on top.

It's anemic because we are not feeding the economy like we should be doing. You can call his administration a failure if you want, your facts don't match the actual record so as usual it's just rhetoric.

I really, REALLY don't wanna turn the Government over to another so called "businessman"... the Last two we tried were disasters.

All those record numbers of People on food stamps came on board the program back in 2007 and 2008 so Bush gets the Title of Food stamp King. His policies are what got us here and the Republicans in congress are keeping us here for political reasons. It won't be so easy for them to keep blocking everything in Obama's second term.... Oh you know he is going to win right?

Dude, the full term average obscures the variance in the data set and blinds us to an examination of the relationship of GDP to policy. Naturally you'd prefer the masking effect of full term averages because it delivers a pleasing illusion. It would be heresy to look behind the averages and compare the first half of 1983 to the first half of this year.

I agree we are not feeding the economy as we should. We are choking it with debt and regulation motgaging our childrens prosperity in pursuit of the fundamental transformation to another failed socialist democracy isn't moving us forward it is destruction of what makes the US economy great.

A record number of Americans on foodstamps is the fault of the previous administration despite Obama being in office for more than 3 years. There seems to be nothing Obama will take responsibility for. What is obvious is that he has neither the temperment nor the skills for the Presidency.

No The full term average is the Number I made the point about. I did not say " Who had the best 1/4 of GDP growth in history"... I said The best Overall GDP growth which would be the average. But for the sake of argument Let's go back to the numbers. Reagan had one spike in one 1/4 and then went backwards the rest of the way. You can't claim his GDP growth over 2 terms was 10.6 % because that would be misleading. I admit he had a spike.. But I also remember the aftermath of his two terms and what it did to our national debt and the deficits.

No we're not doing what needs to be done in the short term to spur economic growth for the long term. We're waiting for a congress that is lost to do something . The Massive tax cuts the Government has been handing out since Bush came into office is just as bad as Spending. The Budget was set up for Bush to have surpluses which were projected to pay off the debt in 10 years. We were told that Tax cuts ( Mostly to the rich) would help create more jobs and keep the economy strong... We were told a Lie. Bush created less net jobs in 8 years than Obama has in 3... the worst Jobs growth since the great depression... not to mention the spending.

Now For Obama... Yes I'm pissed at him to. He exacerbated the problem by coming in and cutting even more taxes. He then cut the payroll tax by 2 %.. which was a super dumb move because that stopped the growth in the Social Security Trust , which they were using as a piggy bank. One could argue that he did a good thing by doing that, but I disagree because that in turn increased spending because Social Security is Law, it's mandatory spending and we are currently having to pay the revenues for social security if the monthly intake falls short.

We don't need deregulation, that was proven when Clinton was in office and presided over a booming economy. We don't need more tax cuts because Corporate profits are at an all time high. We need to rebuild our infrastructure now, to get people back on the job , that is how this economy comes back. The spending we are doing now would be manageable with revenue adjustments .

14.7 million people go on food stamps under bush
14.2 million people go on food stamps under Obama...

I'm giving Bush credit for most of the 14.2 million since he left office... His economy, his fault.

I think he's done great considering the idiots in Washington he has had to deal with for three years. Hopefully at least a few of them will be gone in his second term and he will be even better.

When does Obama get credit for "his economy"........?

So, if Mitt has a good first term it's all because of Obama right......?
