The left likes to claim that this increase would fall only on "the rich." But there are just not enough rich people in America to subsidize this enormous expansion of the welfare state.

So you really need to try to make the case that the middle class would be better off paying more in taxes, and then getting healthcare at no additional cost, than staying with the current system.

Can you actually do that?
It would be cheaper to the consumer over all.

Sure it would because we all know how efficiently run government agencies are.

To reiterate: Can you actually make this case?

Simply declaring it to be true--however emphatically--does not establish anything.

It may in fact be cheaper for HER, but for those of us that have to work for a living to pay for everyone that doesn't, it is a kick in the gut as the amount deducted from our paychecks would soar while the quality of care would fall through the floor. Sounds like a great plan.

I'd say that strictly depends on which consumer you're talking about.

Of course socialized medicine, single payer, or the public option would be cheaper. The government can set reimbursement rates at whatever works for the budget driving service availability down to nearly zero. You'd still have coverage but have to wait in line for actual care with out of date equipment by personnel focused on volume not quality.

The model countries for socialized medicine England and Canada as well as Scandinavians all allow private healthcare for payment. The political elites and wealthy don't submit to the glory of socialized medicine imposed on the masses they claim to protect.
