Default As Trump Threatens Obamacare, Bipartisan Group of House Members Plots a Fix

Quote:
(A) group of about 40 House Republicans and Democrats have been working on legislation that would protect the health-insurance industry from the whims of our notoriously mercurial commander-in-chief. The Problem Solvers caucus has been meeting quietly for the past few weeks to look at ways to stabilize Obamacare, and according to Politico, they plan to unveil their ideas on Monday.
Bipartisan Group of House Members Plots Obamacare Fix

Working behind the scenes in the House of Representatives a small but very important group of Republicans and Democrats have been doing what the American people expect of Congress. They've decided to work together first for the American people as opposed to their political party and they're coming up with the necessary fixes to make Obamacare work and to improve Obamacare overall.

Their proposals are expected to include:

Fund Cost-Sharing Reduction (CSR) payments. for CSR subsidies

Created "Dedicated Stability Fund" for States to lower premiums

Exempt small businesses from Employer Mandate

Repeal Medical Device tax

Issue regulations for insurance companies to sell across state lines

Even though some of these suggestions would get us moving in the right direction, this is not what Republican voters voted for.

The funding of the CSR is nothing more than writing big checks to the insurance companies all in an effort to prop up Obamacare. The Dedicated Stability fund is simply another way to doing the same.

If these congressmen where serious, they would examine and work to fix the reasons that both healthcare costs and healthcare insurance costs are rising. And most of it has to do with uncapping the lifetime benefits and forcing insurance companies to accept people with pre-exsiting conditions. Until they change that, costs will continue to skyrocket.

This all assumes that ObamaCare is basically a good thing, merely in need of a few improvements.

I believe that it is basically a very bad thing.

Just the idea that both sides of the aisle decided to work together is music to my ears. I am sick to death of the divisive right. Time to do what the first founders did. Find common ground. Give and take.

And from what I'm reading in your post is that the "divisive right" is the problem. Chucky Shumer said the same thing. The Democrats are willing to work with the Republicans as as long as the Democrats get everything they want. That's reaching across the aisle to a Democrat.

Republicans work "behind the scenes" on a new healthcare bill...The Left is livid and yells "HOW DARE!!!"...

Democrats join some of the squishy establishment Republicans and do the same thing...The same Left yells "WAY TO GO!!!!"..

Indeed, thanks to John McCain Democrats have no reason to compromise on anything having to do with Obamacare. If they just stick together as they have so far they are in control of the Obamacare "reform" sham.

This is todays far right. It bugs them that two sides might work together.

I don't think it's so much that the 'two sides might work together', I think it's the idea that suddenly, the Democrats want to work together to fix their baby... which means more sliding down the hill to the tune of Other People's Money......

I've said it before: Sometimes, when the foundation is cracked, it's better to tear it down then try and fix it.

The funding of the CSR is nothing more than writing big checks to the insurance companies all in an effort to prop up Obamacare.
The CSR was an anticipated part of Obamacare. It was understood that the sick, those with pre-existing conditions, would be the first to sign-up for insurance under Obamacare. It would take years for the Individual Mandate to eventually coerce enough "healthy" people to enroll to offset the high costs of those with pre-existing conditions. The CSR, that promised up to 80% of insurance companies losses, were so that the insurance companies could keep premiums low that encouraged more healthy younger people to sign-up for insurance.

The GOP has failed to provide the 80% funding to offset the losses to the insurance companies for covering sick people and instead has only provided about 12% (as I recall). Not only that they filed a lawsuit to prevent the CSR payments in an effort to destroy Obamacare.

Those unreimbursed losses have driven up the insurance premiums that discourage healthy people from signing up. The increased insurance premiums require larger subsidies for those that sign up under the individual mandate. The cost of the increased subsidies, as pointed out, cost billions of dollars more than simply funding the CSR's that are temporary while the insurance pool expands to cover those with high cost medical conditions.

Trump voters believed Trump's promise that he had a plan to replace Obamacare with another health insurance program that would provide superior insurance to more Americans at less cost. Trump was lying to the voters of course because he's never had a plan that would provide superior insurance to more people at less cost. Republicans, for seven years, promise to "repeal and replace" Obamacare with something better and they've never produced any proposal superior to Obamacare. Of course the GOP's problem is that Obamacare was the "Republican" (conservative) proposal for health care from the 1990's and the Democrats stole it from them in 2009-2010.

If Trump and/or the GOP had something superior to Obamacare then Democrats, including former President Obama, have already stated they'd support it.

So we have Trump lies and GOP lies when it comes to Obamacare. When are Republicans going to simply admit they've been conned and lied to?
