Default New Jersey Obamacare Co-op Becomes 17th to Collapse

We are told the problem with the "for profit" healthcare system is the evil insurance companies. If only we had single payer a benevolent and hyper efficient Federal government would provide perfect care at a tiny fraction of the cost. Why, Obamacare even included what turned into 23 subsidized "coops". Surely these coops have demos rated the glory of government healthcare.

Quote:
Seventeen Obamacare co-ops have now failed. The Health Republic insurance of New Jersey yesterday announced it would close, leaving 35,000 members without coverage next year. The New Jersey co-op, which received almost $110 million in taxpayer loans now joins a list of 16 other Obamacare co-ops that have collapsed since Obamacare has been implemented. In all, failed co-ops have now cost taxpayers more than $1.8 billion in funds that may never be recovered.

Oops, more than $1.8 billion down the drain, a glowing endorsement of single payer style government managed health care.

The article is from September, I believe, but I was aware of what was happening at Republic long before then, as my SIL works there.

They will likely stay functional for another 3-6 months, farm out what few members they have left to other carriers, and then shut it down. Many staff have already left the ship, and the other insurance companies have been circling the management staff like sharks chum.

Companies come, and companies go. With the slow death spiral of the PPACA, we will see many get caught in the undertow....

We have a current hot thread claiming, VIA the CBO and Pelosi democrats, that 22million will lose their healthcare insurance coverage and 30,000will die. Where is the CBO report on how many will lose their insurance because the CO-Ops fail?

This was predicted to happen. Why do we not have paid government bean counters telling us their livid prediction on that event.

And wghile we are at it.let's understand what it means when insurance is essentially Medicaid and is happening under the Obamacare structured plan. Many doctors do not except Medicaid patients so you lose your doctor.

Whoops, tht promise debunked

And, since deductibles are becoming so high, people often forego the care they need because they do not have the funds for high out of pocket medical expenses. They have insurance they cannot use.

So what good it that?

Obamacare is folding in on itself, just as predicted and just as it was constructed to do. Why the surprise?

Why the finger pointing at those who opposed it's implementation?

And why are they also called the evil ones because they won't find a way to save the abomination President Obama and his progressives forced upon all Americans?

Our healthcare is so politicized there is absolutely no plan which will meet universal acceptance by all republicans, say nothing of all of Congress. It is unlikely a majority will ever be reached at all, much lesson a plan Americans can stomach.

A lot of Republican congressmen will be facing a tough re-election next year. I doubt the American voters in those districts will choose a Democrat over the current Republican. But many may well vote for a "better" Republican.

The problem with healthcare is that a "one size fits all" program will never work. And injecting the gov't into anything is always a bad idea, just look at the VA.

Republicans need to quit listening to the progressives in Congress and the media, and do what their constituents sent them to DC to do, and that is to REPEAL the ACA. There is no need for them to implement a replacement, as any replacement will just be more of the same and will absolve the Democrats of any responsibility for the mess they have already created.

You just nailed the situation most succinctly of any post I have so far read.
