Well, I see that you would prefer to avoid both of my questions...

I suppose it should not be especially surprising that MSNBC saw fit to trumpet this...
The state in which this mayor's town is in did not expand medicaid. the money is going elsewhere.

That does not answer either question, viz.: (1) How has this man earned the right to speak for the entire GOP? and (2) how might his state's refusal to expand Medicaid--which pays so little that many doctors do not even accept it--lead to the closure of hospitals in North Carolina?

You are misinformed about doctors in poor southern states accepting medicaid.
Did you watch the video? His hospital is closing soon. then there will be no health care in this rural district all because the rest of his party are on some national agenda. He's fighting for people's lives and jobs. emergency rms still have to take pt's that cud have gotten earlier care.

Looks like this right now.

The states have the option of the medicaid expansion since states run medicaid locally. 18 GOP governors and/or gop legislatures chose not to expand medicaid although the federal money is available and would create a poop pot load of jobs, save rural hospitals and save live. At this point it is a moral thing according to this Republican mayor. His local hospital is still forced to take patients in the ER rather than the people having medicaid go in for preventative measures. So the hospital is on the brink as this has been one of the main problems all along and long before the health care law.

But according to Obamacare, if the state doesn't do it, the federal government has to. That's the way the law was written and it is just another debacle created by writing a 2,800 page law that takes over 25,000 pages just to explain what the 2,800 pages are saying. Until they get Medicaid reimbursement to an acceptable level, the program is going to be unworkable whether it's handled by state or federal. If the economy was going great guns and our spendthrifts in DC would reign in their horrible spending habits on useless crap and the environmentalists would suddenly disappear, this economy would come roaring back and there would be plenty of dollars to take care of this problem. A great economy and fiscal responsibility will solve almost any problem.

How might you establish causation between the hospital's imminent closure and the state's declining to expand Medicaid?

And this is not the 1930s; southern states are no longer pitiably "poor," as you suggest. (Remember, one cannot reasonably calculate the average standard of living by considering merely average incomes; one must also consider the relative cost of living--which is often much lower in southern states than it is elsewhere.)

By the way, I heard plenty of platitudes from this mayor--but nothing about how the expansion of Medicaid might prevent North Carolina's hospitals from closing.

Supreme court decided yes the federal government could ask citizens to purchase insurance but that states had a right not to expand medicaid.
Funny thing is some of the hardest hit states from the recession (such as Florida) are among those who's gop legislature or gop governors decided not to expand medicaid. so the citizen is rather stuck and jobs and hospitals are lost as well as new jobs and an estimated amount of people will die and have already as a direct result.

Medicaid pays a mere pittance. How might anyone declare that it is utterly instrumental to keeping a hospital--any hospital--solvent? well doctors and hospitals around here seem to do quite well with that pittance
Yes I believe you are misinformed on how rural hospitals work.
