Read the following links and tell me if you think guns protected the rights of anybody.

What RIGHT was protected?

They protected their property and their body. Probably their own safety.
I happily admit to that.

But what RIGHT was protected?

People keep talking about guns like they are some magic amulet to help ward off the government's oppression.
They aren't.

And while I personally think that our society deserves some form of guaranteed right to firearm possession, I will not give them credit for something they haven't really done.

And getting back to the whole "threat" to gun owners from our government?
Under Bush we had a couple people who were arrested for wearing t-shirts that opposed Bush.
During the election, a black person was arrested who was holding a baton (like police officers have).
Under Obama, we had a few people openly parading around with weapons, unmolested by our government.

People that keep trying to pretend gun ownership is under attack are kidding themselves.

It's ILLEGAL.
What more do you want them to "address" it with?
Make it doubly illegal???

There are NO CO-SPONSORS.
There is NO "they".
To have a "they", you have to have MORE THAN ONE.
And in a congress that has a FEW HUNDRED PEOPLE, you have ONE solitary person who put up this legislation...

Yeah.
Cause it's doing wonders for making sure the government has a warrant before it invades American privacy.
Oh wait. The right-wing (and Obama) doesn't give a damn about that...

I can't think of any right that guns (in current times) have actually protected.

And as I posted earlier, anything that they can do to distract us from what these F--Ks are doing....

You don't think they had a right to protect themselves?

You're changing the question.

I am asking what right OF THEIRS was protected by the firearm.

-----------------------------------------------------

On a separate subject, I believe they had a right to protect themselves.
But that is pointless to this thread.

Just another attempt to liken people to communists
That was never my intention. I have stated before that this could have to do with any party that wants to achive their agenda...

Glad it is false. But that doesn't change the fact that the items on the list have come to be. Except the last one.

Just like you assert in your second post that the NRA could have some member push for gun control to raise funds. So the same applies with this.

I will stay a member of the NRA anyway. Plus this coming OCT. Topeka is going to have a gun show and I plan to sell the few I own then. I live in a good family neighborhood and don't need them. I have owned each one sense the mid 80's. Haven't bought one sense or sold one.

I stopped hunting when I moved back here. I trust in the Lord, and at my age don't fear death.
But I do worry about my Govt. and the lack of wisdom being shown.

And about every liberal I know is against gun ownership for themselfs. So if not this year they will continue to try to dis arm others, IMO.

There it is again.
The attempt to "pluralize" this issue.

You claim "what these F--Ks are doing"....

THIS BILL HAD NO CO-SPONSORS.
This bill will NEVER see the light of day of a vote.

There is NO PLURAL when you're dealing with ONE PERSON tossing this legislation out there...

I've already pointed that out, and people have IGNORED that.
YOU are the distraction.

As was the 2007 version of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act, the current version has been referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, and the fact that the bill does not even have a single co-sponsor makes it unlikely that it will ever be brought to a vote before Congress, much less passed.
snopes.com: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act

That's right ladies and gentlemen.
1) It was originally brought up in 2007.
But I'm betting nobody heard about it then, huh...
Now that Obama's in office (and not Bush), it's time to incite terror of your government...

2) "the bill does not even have a single co-sponsor makes it unlikely that it will ever be brought to a vote before Congress, much less passed
Just because a bill is made present on Capitol Hill doesn't mean squat.
There are TONS of bills that are put on somebody's desk up there, that go nowhere...

Every month I get the NRA hunter magazine in it there are always several stories of gun owners protecting their homes from intruders. So yes this right does serve its purpose...

Notice I said "pointless TO THIS THREAD"

I am talking about something related to the TITLE and OPENING POST of this thread...

Your original statement was "I can't think of any right that guns (in current times) have actually protected." But you say you believe they had a right to protect themselves.

That's gotta be the worst contradiction I've ever seen. Of course, I'm not real bright, so please explain to me the difference between the word "right" in your two statements.

Unless you think they should have protected themselves without using a firearm....
