We could go all the way back to the Godfather of Democrat led massive Federal government expansion, FDR, but suffice to mention the size of the Federal Register housing Federal regulations increased exponentially with bureaucrats required to service them all. His massive New Deal spending fest set a new standard for Federal expansion. Democrats could care less that it failed to cure the Great Depression, FDR got elected 4 times.
Combined with LBJ's Medicare program, Obamacare and Social Security are the foundational pieces of Federal government overspending. All are massive Federal government expansions authored by Democrats. Republicans chipped in with Medicare part D but that is a modest addition to Democrat programs so expensive their funding has to be hidden away on auto pilot to avoid discussion.
There are other costly Democrat created Federal expansions such as Dodd Frank which built two new regulatory agencies independently funded from Congress meaning no oversight. BTW they have the authority to snoop on your financial transactions without restriction.

Despite millions of square feet of unoccupied Federal office space in DC the consumer credit Commissar created under Dodd Frank had a new $300 million facility complete with multi-story open lobby featuring a waterfall built to house the new rulers of consumer credit.
Republicans are in no way blameless in expanding Federal spending but they are comparatively modest beside Democrats. The claim Democrats are honest about expanding spending is laughable. Joe Brain Damage is touting the massive Frankenstein bill Democrats are pushing as already paid for.
