Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will opt out of the presidential public financing system in the general election, he announced Thursday, setting aside an earlier promise to take public money if his Republican rival did the same.
Obama, who has shattered fundraising records in his White House bid, is walking away from $84.1 million in public money. He is the first presidential nominee to opt out of the public financing system since it was established in 1976.

Chicago politicians like Obama proclaim their integrity but always go for the money. It's true the Presidential campaign public financing system is broken, Obama is the one who broke it. And, why not? Democrats demand public financing but when the Chosen One is awash in private donations they line up to vote for him anyway.
In the 2016 campaign victory Trump put to rest the supposedly ironclad rule that the candidate with the most money always wins destroying the primary reason for public finanacing in the process.
