Sotomayor says Supreme Court's Covid decision will 'exacerbate' suffering in fiery dissent

Justice Sotomayor and Kagan, claim that allowing people to worship will be deadly. But thousands of people protesting and going in and out of Walmart and Home Depot everyday, along with liquor stores and smoke shops, is no risk at all.

Apparently those damn Christians just want to kill us all.

Gorsuch's decision...

Quote:
Justice Neil Gorsuch opined a strongly worded rebuke of the EO, arguing that while it was understandable to have strong restrictions at the beginning of the pandemic, it is not right to prolong these restrictions and is certainly wrong to show favoritism towards some industries over religious liberty.

“Government is not free to disregard the First Amendment in times of crisis. At a minimum, that Amendment prohibits government officials from treating religious exercises worse than comparable secular activities, unless they are pursuing a compelling interest and using the least restrictive means available."

Gorsuch was not shy in exposing the hypocrisy of the EO’s application:

“At the same time, the Governor has chosen to impose no capacity restrictions on certain businesses he considers ‘essential.’ And it turns out the businesses the Governor considers essential include hardware stores, acupuncturists, and liquor stores. Bicycle repair shops, certain signage companies, accountants, lawyers, and insurance agents are all essential too. So, at least according to the Governor, it may be unsafe to go to church, but it is always fine to pick up another bottle of wine, shop for a new bike, or spend the afternoon exploring your distal points and meridians. Who knew public health would so perfectly align with secular convenience?”

“Indeed, the Governor is remarkably frank about this: In his judgment laundry and liquor, travel and tools, are all “essential” while traditional religious exercises are not. That is exactly the kind of discrimination the First Amendment forbids. “
This is the crux of the biscuit...

Lefties will complain to the hilt on churches, but can NOT explain why "hardware stores, acupuncturists, and liquor stores, bicycle repair shops, certain signage companies, accountants, lawyers, and insurance agents" are "suffering intolerant" to the very same strain of virus...It's blatantly playing favorites...

Hey, I remember that time I went to the hardware store and people stood around singing for an hour.

I don't know of a single church service where people sing for an hour, so I'll just assume you have no clue as to what goes on in churches and believe your anti-religious bigotries and stereotypes...

I wish Sotomayor would have explained why she feels Churches are more dangerous than grocery stores. We have been told over and over that we are safe if we stay 6ft apart and wear a mask. Does she think church goers will shake hands and kiss more than anyone else?

People spend more than an hour shopping in Walmart. Why do you think they are safer than church goers?

Do you think it would be more dangerous for you and your husband to sit together in a pew with your masks on and 6ft from the next person? than to be in a packed Walmart or Home Depot?

Possibly.

But since when does government have the right to regulate religious practices, in this country?
