Post a link. (And you probably should look up the definition of the word “professional” while you’re at it.)

For a group of people so against Judicial activism its shows that your hypocrisy knows no bounds if you are in favor of qualified immunity first introduced in 1967 by the U.S. Supreme Court

Good Lord man, I hope cops are NOT like the rest of us. Most of us normal citizens, with a gun legally on our hip, could not do the police officer's job without using the weapon within the first year of service. How often do you walk up to a stranger alongside the highway, at night, alone, to hand them a summons to pay a large fine or lose their right to drive???

The police are already held to a higher standard of restraint than the average citizen. Hence the different rules regarding use of deadly force. And subsequent protections for doing same. How often have you or I been in a threatening situation? A police officer faces such episodes, almost daily, as a function of their job. Their training gives them more options but does nothing to lower the frequency of their perilous occupation.

Walk in those shoes. I double dog dare you.

My dad was cop and I had an uncle that was also in LE....

The concept of qualified immunity needs to be abolished imo and I'm not alone....Here is a great opinion piece on the subject written recently...

From your source...

Quote:
While this law is meant to shield law enforcement and other government officials from the frivolous lawsuits that often result from the lawful execution of their official duties, it is effectively protecting corrupt officials from reprisals for their unlawful and/or unconstitutional conduct while in office or in the execution of their duties.
It sounds like the rule is to prevent "A" (red), but also creates "B" (blue)...

Overturning it whole cloth means 'B" won't happen, but "A" will be destroyed...

Sounds like wanting to fix 10 problems and lose protections from the other 10 problems... ...

Well what is worse, corruption or lawsuits.....?

Right now I'd say corruption....

Lets get that fixed first and deal with the other later. It's impossible to fix everything at once....

On a day to day basis, police deal with the worst of society. If you take away qualified immunity, you bring in an even lower class of people called "Lawyers". These are the same people that will sue anyone for anything if they can line their own pockets.

How long do you think it would be until someone was arrested and then "claimed" that the arresting officer somehow violated their civil rights? And how many lawyers will line up to take the case pro-bono just to make a name for themselves?

If you can't see that coming, I can't help you much.

I can't help you then with bad cops being kept in departments, cops filing false reports, cops shooting unarmed people, cops planting evidence all getting dealt with internally with bogus investigations held with other union cops keeping everyone corrupt....

I'd rather clean up the corruption than worry about lawsuits....

But, that is just me....

The corruption effects the public, the lawsuits are a different issue....

Bad cops will commit crimes no matter the review system of their work performance. So citizens will get erroneously arrested and shot regardless of the rules.
Punishing them is not the issue. Facilitating the removal of bad cops, which is regularly recommended after internal investigations suggest faulty l performance, is. Resistance by unions, and frankly the BLUE WALL itself, make it difficult to accomplish.

Explain exactly how your solution would solve the issue.

Atlanta AG has charged Officer Rolfe with murder before a full investigation is completed.. In effect rescinding limited officer immunity

If we rescind limited officer immunity as suggested by some, here is what will happen nationwide...;
