It’s not legal in most cases, and certainly not right, but 1 in 5 left-leaning bosses “will not hire” supporters of President Trump, and huge majorities of hiring managers want to know the positions job candidates have on highly controversial issues including race and immigration, according to a sweeping new survey.

What’s more, job seekers reluctant to cough up their views and positions in interviews can’t hide them because nearly all employers sift through social media posts, mostly Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, of those they are considering for jobs.

“Workplace discrimination is a real and pressing issue, and candidates get their applications sidelined or overlooked due to these factors all the time,” according to the survey from Airtasker provided exclusively to Secrets.

“And even when they do make it past the hiring filter, employees can also be the victims of prejudice and biased behavior when interacting with their bosses and colleagues,” according to the survey.

Not surprisingly, about half of those interviewed said that talking politics on the job is a no-no.

But even being political off the job can be a danger.

n a section titled “Lets talk Trump,” the survey found that 20% of left-leaning hiring managers will not hire Trump supporters. Remarkably, 9% of right-leaning hiring managers won’t either.

Right-leaning bosses, by a margin of 2-1, however, would hire Trump supporters.

And if they are hired, Trump supporters face some discrimination and criticisms from colleagues. The study analysis said that 28% joke about Trump supporters, and “23% observed people being both overly critical and making assumptions about that person’s character.”

Hiring bosses also press to know the views of job candidates on some of the most controversial issues.

According to the analysis:

The majority of hiring managers said it was important to understand a candidate’s stance on racial equality (65%), gender equality (59%), and LGBTQ+ rights (54%). Another 38% felt the same about immigration, and 32% would want to know about an applicant’s politics.

While not as many hiring managers actually turned away a job seeker based on a strongly held belief, each of these controversial topics led to some level of rejection: For example, 29% of hiring managers vetoed a candidate for his or her stance on racial equality, and 27% did so for gender equality. Even if those people had been hired instead of passed over, it’s important to understand that a U.S.-based company can still terminate you for your political opinions.

The Left believes in discrimination.

You can bet that the resistance will be A-OK with this. I'm glad everyone I work with is a Trump supporter.

As one of those leftie managers...

Those 20% are wrong.

I don't care if someone at work voted for Trump or currently supports him. And honestly I had some pretty interesting conversations in the break room with some of the people I learned who did. We didn't agree a whole lot, but it was always friendly. I think we understood we just have different ideas on how to make America better. If I were a hiring manager I'd have no problem with someone whether or not they voted for Trump, nor have I or would I ever treat anyone different for doing so. Something like that shouldn't be coming up in a job interview regardless of anyone's personal feelings or politics.

Gotta say though those numbers on right-leaning managers are also quite troubling. I wonder how many of the 53% that answered in the affirmative would ask about politics and/or view support for Trump as a positive during the hiring process in the same way that the 20% of lefties saw it as a negative. Because that too is discrimination.

I don't believe they should be asking anything of the sort, and while social media is available for review, a candidate can make it all private and they won't be seeing much.

While this office tends to the conservative, I am the heretic among the lot. We've had co-workers of all nationalities, sexual orientation, skin color, religion and age, public FB is checked for virtually anyone that works for us.

Not for religion. Not for political position. Not for sexual orientation. For character.

Do they get sloshed and post drunk pictures? Do they dress like a hooker and post it? Do they post lewd, crude and socially unacceptable things?

We are representatives of the company at all times in public. How we conduct ourselves is a reflection on the company. That is all that should matter.

No, no employer should discriminate based on political position. The fact that anyone should even bring it up in the workplace is pretty well off into lawsuit land, and while out of character for me, should have their asses sued off for it. Actions such as these is one of the driving forces of the divide in our country, the intolerance and bigotry of anyone who is not locked into the acceptable channel of either political side.

Both sides alienate people at a high rate of speed by using political position as a measuring stick. The Democrats do seem to be 'winning' on that scale, however.

Yeah, this can easily go both ways. No one should be asked about religion or politics.

All of my employees for the past 15 years have by chance been right of center. Even my Hispanic employees. I did have a couple lefties work for me in the beginning, they were also friends before that. I had to drive them both out, since they both tried to take advantage of the situation. Politics had nothing to do with it.

I've said this before, but it's not public censorship that we need to worry about, but private. The first prevents public, but private can do much more damage.

When people are prevented from eating at restaurants, gaining employment, just walking down the street, only for their beliefs, we have a problem.

Right now there is a shortage of employable people. So all these @ssholes are lying or starving for good help.

Fortunately, because of the man they hate, those employers lose good people to another company of which there are plenty right now. The economy isn't booming because these ungrateful idiots won't hire a Trump supporter. It's booming because Trump policies have unleashed the potential of the American economy.

As an employer, businessman myself I can attest that any help is hard to find. The last thing a good employer will do right now is turn someone away because they might like our winning President. I'm calling BS on this pol.

I seriously doubt this story has a grain of truth but if it did maybe the personell dept was concerned with intelligence and those turned away just happened to be magas.
