I'm not a knowledgeable trader by any means, we just built up a nice nest egg by working hard, saving, and staying out of debt. And I would hate to

lose it right before I try to retire.
The part about being out of debt is enormously important! It is quite possible to live well on a rather modest income, if others do not have first dibs on the money that is coming in.

I would merely advise that you put some of that nest egg into lifetime financial instruments (such as annuities), so that you cannot "outlive" your money--as some people fear.

Looks like Adam Shifty Schiff has the Ukranian's hosting fund raisers for him.
How sweet.

The stock market is really for younger people.

Over the past 30 or 40 years, the Dow-Jones (or even the Nasdaq) has returned far more than a mere savings account (or even a money-market account). That is not even close.

So someone with a fairly lengthy time horizon should really invest in stocks.

In retirement, however, I do not care to play the market. I just want a reasonable return on my investment (to paraphrase R.J. Young).

Thank's PJ, We do have some money in annuities now, might have to move more.

Your right about the debt. My accountant wife pushed me to concentrate on paying off debt in our early years. Paid off our mortgage in 15 years, then we put that payment in the bank every month and pretended it didn't exist. That, along with other savings and investments made it so we never had to take out a loan on anything.
