Potential tragedy stopped? Maybe?

Off-duty firefighter holds armed suspect in body armor at gunpoint at Missouri Walmart

Quote:
An off-duty firefighter with a concealed carry permit is being hailed a hero tonight, after he held an armed suspect wearing tactical gear at gunpoint at a Missouri Walmart.

What are the details?

At around 4:10 on Thursday, a white male suspect in his twenties entered a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Springfield, Missouri, wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with two firearms while carrying more than 100 rounds of ammunition on his person.

The incident was called in to 911 was an active shooter situation.

According to Lt. Mike Lucas of the Springfield Police Department, the man pushed a shopping cart through the store while taking video on his phone as shoppers panicked and ran. KSPR-TV reported that the store manager pulled the fire alarm and urged patrons to flee, while "the suspect made his way out an emergency exit where a firefighter held the man at gunpoint."

I heard about this on the news. It sounds like this guy was trying to see what kind of panic he could cause with his actions as it does not appear that he tried to shoot anyone even though having plenty of opportunity to do so. Either way, he should be dealt with in court and punished for creating a panic.

Good for the firefighter for doing the right thing. And by the way, not a on duty LEO, but an off duty firefighter, aka citizen with a gun.

Looks like the dude was armed in tactical gear.

Quote:
The suspect was wearing body armor and military-style clothing, according to the News-Leader, which cited information from Lucas. He walked inside the Walmart carrying a “tactical rifle” and another gun, the newspaper reported and had more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

So here is a question that doesn't seem to be answered in the articles.
The guy that was arrested, what law did he break?

The articles don't say he was brandishing the weapon or threatening anyone.
MO is an open carry state.
The articles don't say that the Walmart had "no weapons" signs or that any employee asked him to leave.

I'd ask that people don't attack the messenger, me, on this one but from the evidence in the articles the only people who broke the law are the employee that pulled the fire alarm and the firefighter who held a man at gun point that never threatened him.

"No employee asked him to leave", eh? You are referring to the standard store clerk as a paragon of alertness.

You're right the guy is probably just exercising his right. What would you do if you are in the store unarmed with small charges under your wing?

It might surprise some people to realize that an open carrying customer in any potential shooter zone, is going to be a primary target for some psycho planning mayhem.

The manager and the firefighter did what they thought was prudent. I'll bet you no charges will be filed on anybody.

Here's the dude that did this. Andreychenko was booked into the Greene County Jail at around 9:14 p.m. on an arresting charge of making a terroristic threat in the first degree.

My point for stating that was to establish that he wasn't trespassing.

The chances I'm unarmed are fairly small but to answer your question: I finish my shopping. I live in Alaska, if you go into a Walmart here the safe bet is a good percentage of the people in the store are armed, especially if its hunting season. Hell, I've carried hunting rifles (a sniper rifle to Nancy Pelosi) around the grocery store because I was on my way and didn't want to leave it in the truck.

You don't threaten someone with deadly force just "to be on the safe side".
I'm with you in that I don't think either of them will be charged, although it may be justified in the fireman's case. I'm just saying that according to the evidence I've seen so far, they are the people who broke the law.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending what this guy did, he's an idiot. But, that's not illegal.

Interesting, I wonder what they have to support this charge.

From Hairy Jello's post above,

"Andreychenko was booked into the Greene County Jail at around 9:14 p.m. on an arresting charge of making a terroristic threat in the first degree."

Leaving that part aside, since it has not been certified true, you say you're in Alaska, and especially during hunting season, plenty of people carry their weapons inside a store, can you say, in one day, how many people approximately?
