Default Chelsea Manning will go back to jail after refusing to testify to grand jury probing

I would wish prison shower rape on Manning but he'd prolly like that. Prolly why he's choosing to go back to prison in the first place.

Chelsea Manning will go back to jail after refusing to testify to grand jury probing Wikileaks

Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning is headed back to jail for refusing to testify before a grand jury in the WikiLeaks probe.

Manning served two months at William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center in Alexandria, Va. for a contempt charge regarding the same issue, but was released on Friday after the grand jury term expired.

This time, a judge ordered Manning to the Alexandria Detention Center, where she can face up to 18 months in prison, the length of the grand jury term, unless she agrees to cooperate with the investigation sooner.

Manning said she’d rather stay in jail "forever" than testify to the grand jury probing Wikileaks, describing the subpoena as “an attempt to place me back in confinement.”

“There’s nothing new,” Manning said Thursday during a press conference before her court hearing in Alexandria. “They’re not asking anything new, there’s no new information.”

She told the judge she’d "rather starve to death" than comply with the subpoena.

“Facing jail again, potentially today doesn’t change my stance,” Manning said before entering her hearing. “The prosecutors are deliberately placing me in an impossible situation.”

Manning was found guilty of espionage and theft in 2013 and was sentenced to 35 years in prison after she leaked classified documents to Wikileaks’ Julian Assange. Her sentence was commuted by President Barack Obama in 2017 and she was released from prison after seven years of imprisonment.

I'm starting to think he likes prison.
In 18 months he should be hauled in front of a new grand jury and if he won't testify, back to prison. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Commuting this guys sentence was high on a long list of bad decisions by b.o.

...
She will go to a womens' unit so maybe she won't like it.
She's a traitor to our country, so prison is where Chelsea belongs.

Manning should have never gone to prison in the 1st place.
the people that Manning exposed as rapist, torturers and war criminals should have.. but somehow folks loves to destroy the messengers that expose the corruption rather than the corruption.
I do not understand it.
I know that we who "love America" hate to have it's "mistakes" ...coughcrimescough... aired out in public and so have some natural backlash against Manning's revelations,
but one would like to think people's moral sense would rise above blind patriotism and unquestioning party loyalties but sadly it's not been the case often.

No...

The issue with Manning isn't "WHAT" he was doing...It was "HOW" he was doing it...Stealing classified information is a major crime...and a form of espionage...

I don't care if you think you're doing it for the most noble of reasons...There are no ifs, ands, or buts...

If a cop breaks down the door of someone "he just KNOWS" is a criminal, but does so without a warrant, he is breaking the law...

If a father kills a man with his bare fists because he found out the man raped his daughter, he is breaking the law...

There is no "ends justify the means"...

By your standard there'd be no such thing as Pardons AT ALL.
But going to court is for the crimes on the books is one thing, being sentence for the "wrongdoing", or whether or not justice is served is another.
And in fact In civil jury trials the letter of the law isn't the final arbiter, it's the common sense and morals of the jurors.
- Samuel Chase, Supreme Court Justice 1804 signer of The Declaration of Independence.
"The jury has the right to determine both the law and the facts."

Oliver Wendel Holmes, Horning v DC 254 US 35,138 (1920)
"The jury has the power to bring in a verdict in the teeth of both law and facts."

- U.S. v Moylan 417 F.2d 1002 at 1006 (1969)
"If the jury feels the law is unjust, we recognize the undisputed power of the jury to acquit, even if its verdict is contrary to the law as given by the judge and contrary to the evidence.
This power of the jury is not always contrary to the interests of justice."
Unfortunately this standard does not apply in military justice courts so much.
And even civil Judges have pressured juries not to take advantage of this right.

As far as getting warrants, wiretaps, etc goes, the police and feds get around that everyday now 24/7... and they retroactively changed the laws and assume it's supersedes the Constitution.
Anyone going to jail for that redd? where's the law in this case?

BTW, the constitution was set up to keep the gov't in check, and legal.
the same as the manning/wikileaks exposure of the gov't docs and videos.
But the gov't (including the military) doesn't like restraints or exposure to the citizens.

And Manning was NOT pardoned...He was commuted...That means the crime still stands and is on the record...
