YouTube Video Shows Man Tasered After Refusing to Sign Ticket


An internal police investigation is under way after a formal complaint was filed against a Utah state trooper who was videotaped Tasering a man who refused to sign a speeding ticket.

The officer's conduct has been called into question after a videotape of the incident was posted on YouTube.

The video, taken from a Utah Highway Patrol dashboard camera, shows Trooper John Gardner using a Taser on Jared Massey during a traffic stop on State Road 40 in Uintah County on Sept. 14.



"We do have an open internal review, or investigation, of the case," Sgt. Jeff Nigbur, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Public Safety, told FOXNews.com. "We're trying to expedite that to get that done as quickly as possible. If the trooper acted inappropriately we will definitely, absolutely, take the appropriate measures to resolve that."

The taser can be a useful tool but like any tool,it can be abused!

And what's bad about this is that people will go overboard and call for a ban of them...which is stupid...

The whole reason for the taser is for non-lethal resistance...without tools such as this, police will only have a gun to prevent things from getting out of hand...

Agreed..in this case,I believe the officer was a tad hasty! The offender did turn his back and walk away "not good" but I believe the taser was used too soon in this case. The taser may well save more lives because it is an alternative to using deadly force.

Exactly...but some will take isolated instances like this one and try to curtail the taser for everything...

Which is like solving dandruff by decapitation...

9 times out of 10 I will side with the cop. However, combine the impatience, the almost smug attitude he displays, and the delight he seems to express with himself for having tased the guy and I believe you have a genuinely abusive police officer this time. That cop needs to be fired and charged with assault.
