Thumbs down Tennessee law makers propose combination locks on pill bottles to fight opioid crisis

When I saw this headline, I assumed it was a satirical piece. Unfortunately, it is not. It is one of the most idiotic proposals I've come across. This will jack up the price for these fancy, combination lock bottles that a simple hammer will be able to break open.

Quote:
Two state law makers in Nashville have proposed putting a combination lock on pill bottles to stop people from stealing opioids.

The thinking is an ordinary pill bottle is too easy open, and the drugs are too easy for someone to steal.

The combination pill bottle adds another layer of protection and potentially stops someone from taking the first step to getting hooked.

"It is simple. It is safe," said Turning Point Addiction Campuses CEO Ted Bender.

He believes a combination lock on top of pill bottles can help prevent new cases of opioid addiction.

Bender shared data that shows four out of five addicts start by experimenting, taking pills that don't belong them.

"A lot of time it starts right in our home, in our own medicine cabinet and this lockable pill bottle would prevent that from happening," said Bender. https://www.fox13memphis.com/top-sto...28lV3Jo_eXMPVY
Do these people think a lock will prevent someone from breaking into the container by some other means? I can't believe this proposal is being seriously considered.

That's the problem of the individual...NOT the government...

Like bottles ain't already too hard to open. I had to sign a thing saying there are no children living in my home just to get child proof caps replaced on my scrips. I predict I would immediately lose the combination to these double locks.

Personally I don't think their is any Opioid Epidemic, it's just something to keep people riled up so the will forget how sh*tty their own lives might be.

I agree that there is no opioid epidemic, but IMO the reason for this alleged crisis is an excuse for more laws and more control over people's lives.

So, the lock is supposed to deter someone from getting into the pill bottle.

A couple of vise grips, and that bottle would be cracked in a heartbeat, and access to the pills regained.

Are people really that stupid that they can't see the obvious?

Semi off topic, I recently heard that some people were intentionally harming (breaking legs and such) their pets and going to the vets for painkillers. I would still put the vise grips to use, just in another way.

Those things are meant to be child-proof, are usually adult-proof.
