Thumbs down Dolphinaris

Dolphins don't belong in the desert - I’m running out of ways to say the same thing.

First there was the dolphin called Bodie. Then Alia. Then Khloe.

Now, a fourth dolphin, Kai, has died at the human playland/dolphin gulag called Dolphinaris, the aquatic Alcatraz on reservation land off Loop 101 and Via de Ventura Boulevard near Scottsdale.

It’s not complicated.

Dolphins don’t belong in a desert.
A pool is not the 'natural world'

Dolphins don’t belong in what amounts to water-filled concrete cells so that paying customers can indulge their desire to “interact.” The Mexico-based company behind the attraction tries to justify its money-grubbing enterprise by saying that keeping dolphins in such a place and charging humans a fat price to hang out with them in a pool will somehow “deepen respect for dolphins and our natural world.”

A swimming pool is not the “natural world.”

And how do you deepen respect for ocean-dwelling creatures by locking them up in a desert?

These dolphins have committed no crime. They are guilty only of begin smart, social, handsome, outgoing and intelligent.

They’re often called the second most intelligent species on earth. Behind us. Then again, I can’t imagine dolphins locking humans into a cell and charging other dolphins an exorbitant amount of money to mingle with us, so…
Well it's closed now.

Dolphinaris sign removed from building, one week after closure - Story | KSAZ
Quote:
SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- FOX 10 has learned that crews have removed the Dolphinaris sign from the facility's building, a week after its closure.

On Friday, a viewer sent a photo to FOX 10, showing crews removing the Dolphinaris sign, letter by letter. By the time the viewer took the photo, crews have already removed most of the sign, with the letters "R", "I", and "S" from "Dolphinaris" still hanging on the exterior wall. The viewer said a temporary sign for one of the restaurants near the facility has since been put in place of the original Dolphinaris sign.

Officials decided to temporarily close the facility, after the death of Kai, a 22-year-old dolphin that was euthanized following deteriorating health.

Kai is the fourth dolphin to die at the facility. In September 2017, seven-year-old Bodie died from a rare muscle disease. In May 2018, 10-year-old Alia died from a bacterial infection that spread quickly, and 11-year-old Khloe died months later, in December 2018, after a six-year struggle with a chronic illness.

Initially, officials say an outside panel of experts will reevaluate the facility, as well as environmental factors, and all aspects of animal welfare during the voluntary closure. However, multiple sources have since told FOX 10 that the closure is permanent. As recent as February 8, officials still maintain the closure is temporary.

"I imagine that some people are imagining that is the case, but the facility is being evaluated, so the closing is temporary until the findings are in and an assessment can be made," wrote a facility spokesperson.

I guess that they think that they would be better off in the Ocean to be eaten by sharks?

They can fawn over them all they want but they are ANIMALS - not people.

Animals like a pig, or a cow etc. they have no technology and don't do a damn thing but swim.

"Don't belong in the desert?" How about slaughtered and made into Cat food?

Using this logic, humans don't belong in the Arctic, either...Where's their outrage?...

dolphins kill sharks
no need being unnecessarily cruel ffs
the oldest living animals (one was 120) died when the heat went out one winter in north Florida. that climate was wrong for them.
like buying a home you don't perch over an iffy looking man made "ridge" then sue after the landslide, you don't build where water has to be hauled in even though "technology" can help you adapt
you don't raise dolphins in an arid 120+ degree climate.
somethings you just know.
or...you don't?

What, do you think the dolphins were kept in an open air kiddie pool? Arid climate? They were in an enclosed climate controlled structure.

Something is wrong with the way the dolphins were being cared for. The Shedd aquarium in Chicago maintains a population of dolphins and whales has for years. How long would they last in the Chicago climate?

Let's see, the aquarium spent millions building a facility to house the dolphins then hired staff to care for them and featured them as part of the aquarium. Then, they neglected their care as part of a publicity program.

A lot longer than in Arizona apparently.

I don't know about publicity but if they want to see dolphins they should go see them.
In Florida or California where the air and climate are more conducive to marine life.
They have water parks here in Idaho. Kinda weird but O.K. They have one in Utah. Why don't they just celebrate what they have and travel to see what they don't? You can't have everything.
Like some damaged mind decided to put concrete fake California coastline at a resort in South Florida. Stupid is as stupid does.

Typical Nancy Pelosi let them eat cake response. Let them go to the coast like it's nothing to pack up the family and go to the coast instead of driving across town.

Yes, its tragic the dolphins died. That doesn't mean they can't be kept in a region where the external climate would be fatal to them as the example of the Shedd aquarium proves.

Not according to the survivors of the Andes mountains airplane crash in 1972. We taste like pig.

I smell negligence and incompetence in the running of the aquatic park.
