Default Kamala Harris Vows to ‘Eliminate’ Private Insurance Market

Surprise! It appears that Conservative predictions that Obamacare was just a precursor to government run health care, is now part of the platform of one of the most prominent early candidates for the DNC nomination for President.

Quote:
Senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) advocated the elimination of the private health insurance industry during a CNN town hall event in Iowa Monday night.

Harris, who announced her 2020 presidential candidacy this week, broke from previous Democratic healthcare orthodoxy, which held that Americans could retain their private insurance if they so chose, in favor of a single-payer plan in which the government is the sole health insurance provider.

“I believe the solution — and I actually feel very strongly about this — is that we need to have Medicare for all,” Harris said in response to an audience question about healthcare affordability. “That’s just the bottom line.”

“So for people out there who like their insurance, they don’t get to keep it?” CNN’s Jake Tapper asked.

“Let’s eliminate all of that,” Harris responded, “let’s move on.”

Harris went on to describe the current healthcare system as “inhumane” and argued that switching over to a single payer system would reduce the financial and bureaucratic barriers to quality health care.

IMO, even those who support Medicare for All, don't want to see the private insurance industry gone. They want to be able to upgrade their coverage....

This should prove interesting. I think she may have a few surprises headed her way....

This is no surprise. Whilst President Obama teased the insurance industry into thinking ACA would be a slush fund of mandatory business for them, it was, in reality, the first step towards removing them as competition to the Gubmit.

According to the progressives, the Insurance industry was the greedy boogeyman interrupting access to good health care. And yet, it was Obama who's persuasion made the purchase of "insurance" mandatory. To my thinking, there had to be a nefarious angle here. Seems I was right.

Obamacare did a wonderful job of fundamentally changing American health care. So much so that the damage may only be repaired by a complete and likely painful reboot to free enterprise or a complete gubmit takeover.

Just a hunch but, I'm guessing the next group of Democrats favor the latter.

The loss of any freedom is evil. And that a majority may currently be in favor of it does not make it less so.

Well although I agree with her policy stance I am afraid that early, early on she has just made an extremely powerful enemy. I think she shows her cards too early but then I was recently complaining she hasn't been specific enough

So What can I say but, "Way to go, Kamala!" woo-hoo!"

Many people are homeless... So we need to have the government provide housing for all. Let's move on from people being able to buy their own homes.

Many people are hungry... So we need to have government provide food for all. Let's move on from people paying for their own food.

Many people are jobless... So we need to have the government provide jobs for all. Let's move on from people having to find their own jobs.

Many people don't have any mode of transportation... So we need to have the government provide transportation for all, we need to move on from people owning their own cars.

You can play that game with ANY commodity or service. How much freedom are you going to give up before you say, enough is enough?

What Conservatives predicted this????....

...Oh, yeah...Me...

From my thread...December, 2012...

Quote:
ObamaCare isn't the successful completion of a new way to deal with healthcare issues. It's nothing more than a beginning. Phase One. The proverbial foot in the door so it can be swung open when the time is right. At some point in the future, when Obama has been long enjoying the speaker circuit, the progressives will complain that ObamaCare isn't enough. Welcome Phase Two.

By that time...when the nation becomes "used to" ObamaCare because its been around so long...There will be a cry, from the same people that lied, cheated and stole to get ObamaCare in the first place, for the next step (public option), which will seem much less severe than when ObamaCare was first implemented and the country will be more accepting.

Of course, at an "X" amount of time later, the call for an outright government takeover will be demanded and universal healthcare will be...once again...much more acceptable to the nation since Phase Two has been around for awhile. Mission Accomplished.

So the only problem you see is that she showed her cards too early? In other words, she should lie about her true intentions just to get things started?

At least you are being honest as this is what Progressives have been doing all along. They don't dare run on their actual agenda as it is so radical that most people with the cognitive ability of a house cat, would reject it right away. So they have to incrementally implement their proposals.

This reminds me of the story about a native of Central America telling how they would domesticate wild pigs. They would find where the pigs were comfortable and put out a food trough for them and fill it every day. This was to get the pigs to get comfortable eating out of the trough. After a week or so, they would then put up a single piece of fence next to the trough. The pigs would get used to this and continue to show up to eat. They would then put up another section and keep this up until the pigs were comfortable walking through a gate to the food. Then once all of the pigs were inside the fence eating at the trough, they would close the gate.

This is exactly what the progressives are doing to the American people. They are slowing eroding your freedoms, one at a time, and getting people used to that loss of freedom. Then they go after another one until one day, we have sacrificed all of our freedoms and expect the government to take care of us.

No thanks. I prefer my Liberty over kneeling at the masters feet, begging for by existence. If you prefer the latter, have at it. But don't think for one second that those of us that cherish our freedoms and understand the sacrifices our forefathers made to establish them will be turned over without a fight.
