Default Illinois security guard saved bar patrons’ lives; then police showed up and shot him

Sucks. RIP to a true hero who saved the lives of countless peeps.

Watch; libs will claim the dude was killed because he was black. Guaran-fuqin-tee it. Libs will use any tragedy to deal the race card. They won't wait for the facts' they'll just automatically jump to racism.

Anyways, big-time thoughts and prayers to an amazing man and his family.

Illinois security guard saved bar patrons’ lives; then police showed up and shot him to death

Tragedy struck the south Chicago suburbs this weekend when Midlothian, Illinois, police shot and killed a security guard who had subdued a would-be murderer outside a bar.

What happened?

According to WGN-TV, the incident occurred outside Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Midlothian around 4 a.m. on Sunday. Bar security had asked a group of unruly drunken patrons to leave. One of the men who was asked to leave reportedly immediately returned to the bar with a gun and opened fire on bar patrons.

Bar security guard Jemel Roberson subdued the alleged shooter, whose name has not yet been released. According to witness statements provided to WGN, Roberson had the shooter detained face down on the ground with his knee in the shooter’s back and a firearm pointed at the shooter, telling him, “Don’t move!”

When police arrived at the scene, however, they opened fire on Roberson.

According to witness Adam Harris, who described the confrontation to WGN, “Everybody was screaming out, ‘Security!’ He was a security guard. … And they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him.”

According to WLS-TV, four other people suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds in the encounter, although it was not immediately clear whether these gunshot wounds were caused by the shooter or by the police response.

Midlothian police issued the following statement to WLS regarding the shooting: “Upon arrival officers learned there were several gunshot victims inside the bar. A Midlothian Officer encountered a subject with a gun and was involved in an Officer involved shooting. The subject the Officer shot was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.”

No further details about the shooting have yet been released. According to Illinois law, the incident will now be investigated by the Illinois State Police because it includes an officer-involved shooting.

A spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office told WGN that Roberson did have a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, but did not have a concealed carry license.

What do we know about the security guard?

According to statements provided to both WGN and WLS, Roberson was a musician who frequently played drums, organs, and other instruments for worship services for several area churches. Roberson’s friends also told WGN that he aspired to become a police officer someday.

Reverend Patricia Hill, who knew Roberson from one of these churches, told WGN, “Every artist he’s ever played for every musician he’s ever sat beside, we’re all just broken because we have no answers. … He was getting ready to train and do all that stuff, so the very people he wanted to be family with, took his life.”

I think that is what some anti-gun person here means by "more gun regulations". Except they are needed for morons with badges and firearms. I cannot believe the mediocre bullshlt of those SOBs, who are supposed to be highly trained professionals. I'll bet they also expect to retain their jobs afterward.

People, please can it with any defense for those imbeciles just because they are called "police officers". They are NOT.

I was thinkin' what coulda possibly justified this shooting. One thing that came to mind was if the cop rolled up on an active shooter call at the bar and saw a dude holdin' a guy down with a gun to him and told him to drop the gun and he didn't. Then maybe it'd be justified.

Def need all the facts to come out. But that's just one scenario where it could be justified.

If that is what happened, then it's a "too bad so sad" situation. I don't understand why there would be any need for a person to subdue another person and then hold a gun to him while he was on top of him. I've been in that type of situation, and all I've used is my thumb against his Adam's apple. The police officer showing up knew what was going on and calmly asked the subdued individual if he was going to behave himself. Then he took over from there. End of incident.

In the imagined scenario, the security guard could have been on an adrenaline high. We should find out shortly what happened.

I flipped over to MSNBC for a few minutes today (for the same reason I look at 13-car pileups) and sure enough they were blamin' racism for this shooting.

This is the lib mentality. Scream racism and wait for facts later.

Hell, libs will scream racism even if there's evidence proving otherwise.

I hope the man's family sues the police department and wins.

Little update. Witnesses say the cop told the security guard to drop the gun before he fired. Other witnesses said peeps were screaming at the cop that he was a security guard.

One thing for sure: it had to have been a chaotic scene with so much going on when the cops rolled up.

Illinois police release crucial, but disputed new detail about officer killing of security guard
