It's not just that, it's a political stunt. A sad, sad political stunt. He is using our troops as props to try to help the Republicans limp past this midterm. You have a shrinking crowd of peasant Hondurans seeking asylum, which is perfectly legal to do, about 1000 miles away from the US border. They won't make it here for at least another month, however many do show up because we don't know that either. And this sh-thead wants to deploy 15,000 of our armed forces to the border, and signaled that he'd be okay with our troops shooting at someone if they throw a rock and somehow hits a solider from across the Rio Grande. He has backpedaled a bit, going from executions to arrest, but the flippant attitude he has towards border security and rules of engagement is hard to take back once that cat was let out of the bag.

There's zero bravery in any of this, no leadership. And he's not protecting us from some growing unwashed hoard of criminals and terrorists wanting to illegally overrun our borders in order to get all the welfare forever that he wants his supporters and the rest of us to believe. It's all a bullsh-t political move to try to irrationally scare folks into voting his way, nothing more.
