“We’re in need of food, water, anything, we’re not getting any help. The whole street needs help,” Goolspy told the Red Cross. “FEMA referred me to you. That person told me to call 211.”

Down the street, Barbara Sanders stood outside her daughter’s unit where she had come to stay during the hurricane.

“We’re not getting any help,” she said. “We need food. It’s just crazy.”

Sanders said not a single relief agency had come by to check on them. Only the police had come and it was to tell everyone to leave. “They told us there’s nothing they can do and it’s gonna take a long time to rebuild,” Sanders said.

Just then a pick-up truck arrived with water. It was the first help this neighborhood had received and it turned out to be two brothers, Chris and Brendon Hill, from Louisiana who had decided to come and help residents here.

In neighboring Panama City Beach, city manager Mario Gisbert wasn't going to wait for federal emergency assistance. Volunteers from Florida and other states, brought water, set up a food kitchen for police, and prepared 1,500 meals for locals. A local church is preparing to distribute meals at 15 stations in Panama City.

“The American people are helping us,” Gisbert said. “FEMA will eventually come into the game and get the accolades in six months.”

Hey! Another Trump victory!

These are people who ignored mandatory evacuation orders right?

You know, evacuation orders are given for two reasons, because the storm is an immediate threat to safety, and second, in the aftermath, the area will not have services for quite some time.

Nature teaches hard lessons and the lessons get more brutal the stupider the people are.

But hey, blame Trump . . .

I don't know. And if they left they can't stay gone indefinitely. those who didnt leave probably didnt have the means.

what about the texans trump helped? they didnt leave either but he looked like he helped. he has shirked his duty and lied about it. he said federal help was just waiting till the storm was over then ready to move in immediately.

It's been less than two days. FEMA is there. The national guard is there. It won't be cleaned up in a couple days.

But we do have a report from a Trump bad blog.

In EVERY hurricane, you're going to have two camps...

1) A group of people that were helped immediately
2) A group of people that were not

When it's a Democrat president, the media will report on #1 and tell #2 to go f*ck themselves...

When it's a Republican president, the media will report on #2 and tell #1 to go f*ck themselves...

I look at that storm damage and keep wondering why is it that in these hurricane prone areas we don't enforce stricter building codes? It seems like hurricane after hurricane many of these wood frame homes are knocked down and we the tax payer keep paying for it. Sure some of these people pay insurance funded by the government. But there is no way those people are paying the full cost. Maybe they need to start building homes out of reinforced concrete or some other material that they can stand up to those hurricanes so that we the tax payer aren't paying for this what seems like year after year or every time they are hit with a hurricane.

"Everyone evacuate!"

"No, I'm stayin' right here!"

*Hurricane devastates area*

"Damn you, Trump!"

We know where it is. A few very small towns. I'm not even talking about shelters, just food, and water. they should have dropped fricken care packages fer crying out loud.

as for the evacuate comment - you can't stay gone forever. maybe you don't have family out of state. motels are expensive. you have to go back sometime. probably if you stayed for the duration you couldn't afford to go anywhere, possibly have a medical condition. who gives a flyin fvck why you are there. you're there ok? and an American citizen who needs assistance in the face of what for you is a cataclysmic event.
It's not always about the big I and little you.

My son is in the Air Force and is stationed at Tyndall AFB and lives in a house on the base. The eye of the hurricane went right over his house.

Monday afternoon last week, he received an order from the base commander to evacuate to no less that 100 miles from Panama City. He and his wife packed up essentials and left that night for New Orleans.

After the hurricane devastated Tyndall AFB, the commander informed those stationed at Tyndall to stay away as conditions were not safe for their return. They expect to be away for at least 30 days or more. In light of this information, my son and his wife drove back home to Ohio from New Orleans with only the essentials that they were able to pack. They are here now and will most likely remain here until they receive word from the AF that they are allowed to return.

Prior to him leaving, he gassed up his truck and pick up a few supplies. He talked with other people around Panama City that said they were not evacuating and they would just stay and take their chances. It was not a matter of not being able to leave or having no where else to go, they just decided that they would take their chances. Now they are paying for their foolish decision.

As for the left looking to blame this on Trump, it is politics as usual. When Katrina hit New Orleans, Amtrack trains left New Orleans, mostly empty as people decided to stay and ride it out. There were many empty buses parked in New Orleans that could have been used to take people away from the area, but the Dem Mayor decided to not use them. However, after the disaster, he criticized Bush for not helping fast enough while ignoring the fact that it was almost impossible to get into the city due to flooded roads and downed bridges. These are many of the same problems facing the victims in this hurricane as there is really only a couple of roads in and out of the area and they were mainly impassible immediately following the hurricane.

My son has heard that they were able to get the runway at Tyndall operational and they have begun to land military transport planes there filled with equipment and supplies to aid in the relief effort.

Salty, you have no possible way to know if anyone was helped immediately or not. I doubt that's even close to the truth.

Drop care packages? Surely you jest.

Here's a helpful clue. If someone comes knocking at your door and tells you to get out, get out. Now. Or stay at your own risk. Your choice. But if you stay, you don't automatically get moved to the front of the line.

As for your probably's, again, you have no possible way of knowing why they stayed. Most stay because they're stubborn.

One thing about hurricanes. They don't just show up. You have a few days to prepare. Use those days.
