I think they suck and I hope Trump calls them out for it if he hasn't already.
Greedy bastards.

I hope they keep controlling expenses. By doing so, it allows them to pay a dividend to shareholders. AT&T has increased it's dividend for 33 consecutive years. My T stock pays quarterly and is on a DRIP so every consecutive quarter pays me more and increases my ownership/wealth. Its current dividend of 6.28% (as of today) is much better than CD's, bonds or bank savings accounts. Some day I will retire and change that DRIP to cash payout to help cover living expenses.

People don't get wealthy by working for others, they get wealthy by owning companies. Buying stock is one way to own (part of) a company.

Just wondering Bat, what if this fear that the markets are going to fail very soon. How will that work with 'living expenses' once it is said and done?

I have bought and sold some stocks but don't hold them but a few years and sell.
Take the Profits I say.

The market is cyclical and at some point it will drop. We are in one of the longest bull market runs in history, so I wouldn't be surprised by a 15-30% correction within the next year or two. One thing about all the past corrections, the market has always recovered and eventually surpassed the pre-correction price. I don't need living expenses from my investments for another 10 years at the earliest. I also have some hard assets (gold, silver, art and lead).

Mostly I own index funds, I only use a small portion of my overall portfolio to dabble in individual stocks. T is one of those stocks, and at times, I have sold T stock when it hit highs and then repurchased back when it hit dips. And doing that is kind of a dance. Such as, I won't sell close to a dividend date. In all the years that I've owned T, I've never gone to a zero position. In the past 2 years, I've sold T at least 3 times for over $36 and repurchased for under $34 and never missed a dividend. I take profit two ways, dividends and price fluctuations.

My take is simple. First, nobody is liquidating AT&T employees, at least I hope not. Liquidating anyone is highly illegal.

Second. It's not the job of AT&T to provide jobs. It's obligation is to its owners. The stockholders. AT&T will take on more employees when the current workforce cannot keep up. When there are too many people in the lunchroom, a business decreases workforce. When the current workforce is behind people get hired.

Why is that concept so difficult to understand?

And T seems to manage that process well. That is why they can continue to increase their dividend for 33 consecutive years for shareholders (owners) like me.
