Re: Homeless Samaritan suing couple who raised funds to help him
I'm of a split mind on this.
I don't believe that the couple have been appointed guardians of Bobbitt. The money was raised on his behalf, and unless they can prove incompetence as his guardians, I would believe the money is rightfully his, regardless of how he has spent it in the past or would in the future.
The money has been put into the couple's personal account - that, IMO, is wrong. It should have been put into an account separate from their personal funds, even a In Trust For account would have been better, and pro bono trustee to over see it, if the couple were so concerned about how Bobbitt may spend it.
On the other side, handing someone who is known to have a drug problem a wad of cash, is asking for trouble. While the question regarding the trailer has yet to be answered, it would be interesting if they could have bought a strip of land with some of the money, put the trailer on it, and let him live on his own. He would have either sunk or swam.
It should be interesting, and educational, how this plays out.
