It may be a popular 'idea these days' but that's ALL it is. When you ask the people who are in favor of it, including the whack job from NY, they have no idea. They think money grows on trees.
One needs to look into this issue from the perspective of cost-benefits as well as cost-deficits. Some points to consider: Single payer can control costs, single payer can provide universal preventative care & early diagnosis, limit visits to hospital ER's by those not covered by any insurance, and revenue can be raised by requiring individual and family fees - some possibly subsidized by benefits bestowed by Unions or Individual Businesses, and, of course, there is no profit associated when operated by the government.

Good health is important to every person, and every person will at some point need medical care. Legislatures and The Congress needs to find some way to establish priorities, and enact fiscally responsible budgets for the many, not the few who buy their votes.

Sure, you just have to ignore the fact that it would create a government bureaucracy of never ending expansion while allowing unelected bureaucrats to decide on yours and my medical care. What could go wrong?

Are you quoting Sarah Palin? Death panels by Gov't bureaucrats? You post is a slippery slope argument at best.

Don't forget, there is no profit motif, and no bonuses for denying service. Note, I did not claim a citizen could not purchase private insurance, nor did I propose that all doctors, nurses and techs would be employed by the government.

So then it is not a 'one payor' system, it's a Medicare expansion. Which is paid by the taxpayers.

Back to 'other people's money'.
