To all of our valued customers,

We regret to inform our customers that Blockbuster Video will be closing both the College and Debarr stores starting July 16th. We will reopen for our inventory sale on Tuesday, July 17th at 12 noon and will run through the months of July and August. These are the last two Blockbuster stores in Alaska that survived and it is sad to say goodbye to our dedicated customers. We have thought of you as family for the past 28 years. Both Kelli Vey and I (Kevin Daymude) have been with the company since 1991 and have had great memories throughout our career. Thank you for sticking by us throughout all these years. I can’t tell you how much it means to us. We hope to see you at our stores during the closing, even if it’s just to say “Hello”. What a great time to build your media library and share some Blockbuster memories with us.
We will miss all of you!

Thank you again,

Kelli Vey
District Manager

General Manager
There will be one Blockbuster left in America. The Bend, Oregon store.

some comments on the closing announcement:

Nu Xiong May I rent some videos and not return them back ?
Blockbuster Alaska Sure, only if you want to be sent to collections.

Jimmy Reilly Anyway I can buy the sign on the front of the store and have it shipped to New Jersey for $$$$ after you guys close up shop? Blockbuster Alaska

Yazmin Little NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
My 6 yr old boys LOVED going there! We went so often before we moved out of state. It was almost a weekly tradition to get movies and pizza at Papa Murphy's. You will be greatly missed. I really hoped it would never close !

Melissa Mosier Nooooo!!!! This SUCKS! I don’t care about streaming, Netflix, or RedBox. It’s not about ease of access or pricing to me. Blockbuster is a family experience. Nothing will ever replace cruising the aisles, reading the backs of multiple movie cases, telling my kids to stop bumping into every shelf and NO to every single piece of over-priced candy. Sigh. This is a sad day.

Even Jon Oliver had tried to help:

Once, just once, can you put politics aside and mourn the loss of an iconic business? Dang, man.

No politics involved. pure sarcasm.

Look at the thread starter. The same person who doesn't understand "subsidies" and tax credits" So I threw a gig at her.

GEEZ

.

As for Blockbuster, the business changed. They didn't. Nobody goes to Photo Mart booths with their film anymore. Or buys buggy whips. When the Dodge brothers couldn't make it in the Bicycle business they started over building parts for FORD.

A few years ago, the very basis market of my business disappeared overnight. No one puts coupons and toys in millions of packages of cereal, pet foods and poultry anymore. Five major USA Printers located in St Louis MO closed down. Con Agra moved to Omaha NE, Ralston sold out to Nestle and General mills. My entire customer base evaporated.

And then came the Obama years.

No one felt sorry for me, or my employees.

So, we adapted, changed, worked hard on new product lines and a different customer base. many of our competitors tried to expand in a dwindling market.

They are gone now.

We are still here.

Yeah I do feel sorry for them. Even the unscrupulous ones.
Politics,,, has nothing to do with it.

I miss a lot of those places. There used to be a Hollywood Video (remember those?) on my was home from work. I used to enjoy getting a movie to watch when I got home.
Redbox just isn't the same. I like to look around and see what movies are there.
