Default Proposal to split California into three states makes November ballot

The conservatives in CA are outnumbered by the regressives, so I doubt this will pass, but it would be great if it did, because if this would actually lower taxes then it would offer some relief to the productive, while those who live off the taxpayers' largesse might have to figure out another way to live.

California residents will get a chance to vote on a measure to divide the Golden State into three separate states, election officials said Tuesday.

Proponents of the CAL 3 initiative submitted more than 402,468 valid signatures as of Tuesday, making it eligible for the Nov. 6 general election ballot, according to the California Secretary of State’s office.

The office did not say exactly how many total signatures were submitted, but backers said the petition drew more than 600,000 from residents across the state’s 58 counties, dwarfing the 365,000 signatures required to qualify for the ballot.

Adding the initiative to the ballot would be the first step in a long process that would ultimately require approval from Congress.

The proposal, led by venture capitalist Tim Draper, would split the country’s most populous state into three new states of near-equal population: Northern California, California and Southern California, according to the proposal.

Northern California would include cities between the Bay Area and the Oregon border. Southern California would begin in Fresno and cover most of the southern state. The "new" California would cover Los Angeles County and much of the coast below San Francisco Bay, the proposal said.

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will certify the initiative as qualified for the November ballot on June 28, his office said Tuesday.

Not to worry, if the proposition passes by popular vote a sympathetic judge will deem it invalid just like the imperial judiciary invalidated proposition 8. Even if that fails Congressional Democrats and spineless Republicans will not allow the Democrat hegemony in California to be threatened by a mere popular vote.

Since the fight will be about money I doubt it will pass. Even Dumpsterfire knows, when it's about money, it's ALL about the money.

It sound nice on the surface, but it would be detrimental from a federal government perspective...

Passing this would make the Senate jump to 104 seats, and California would get SIX Democrat senators instead of two (Five if Republicans were lucky enough to even get one of them)...

You beat me too it. California is going the way of the dinosaur and will soon begin to pay for their obsession to bankrupt their own state. We should just let them continue and watch as it all comes tumbling down. I suggest that conservatives flee while and if they can and leave it to the "progressives" to figure it out. It won't be long until they are begging for Federal assistance as they will soon run out of other peoples money.
