Default Justice Department announces 'zero-tolerance' policy on illegal border crossings

Thank. Fuqing. God.

This sorta goes with Trump's decision to send thousands of troops to the border.

Can't tell ya how much it thrills me to see a POTUS take illegal immigration seriously. It hurts America like a bitch and Trump recognizes this and is starting to do what he can to stop it.

Justice Department announces 'zero-tolerance' policy on illegal border crossings | Fox News

The Justice Department announced Friday that it is implementing a “zero-tolerance” policy for prosecuting those attempting to enter the U.S. illegally -- the latest in a series of measures by the Trump administration to combat illegal immigration.

“The situation at our Southwest Border is unacceptable,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement announcing the policy. “Congress has failed to pass effective legislation that serves the national interest -- that closes dangerous loopholes and fully funds a wall along our southern border. "

“As a result, a crisis has erupted at our Southwest Border that necessitates an escalated effort to prosecute those who choose to illegally cross our border,” he said.

The Trump administration says the number of attempted border crossings has increased by 203 percent since March 2017. In response, Trump this week signed a proclamation sending the National Guard to the border. He has said he would like to see 2,000-4,000 members sent to the border.

The latest move by the Justice Department orders U.S. attorneys along the border to adopt a policy of prosecuting all referrals from DHS of illegal entry and attempted illegal entry into the U.S. It comes almost a year after Sessions issued a memo to federal prosecutors directing them to prioritize certain immigration offenses.

The DOJ’s announcement comes amid increasing criticism by Trump of U.S. laws for the border -- specifically on so-called “catch-and-release.”

“Our Border Laws are very weak while those of Mexico & Canada are very strong,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Congress must change these Obama era, and other, laws NOW!”

“We don't have laws, we have catch-and-release,” he said Tuesday. “You catch and then you immediately release and people come back years later for a court case, except they virtually never come back.”

In particular, Trump was riled by media reports of a caravan of more than 1,000 Central American migrants heading through Mexico toward the U.S. border. Trump threatened to end the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and cut aid to Honduras if the caravan was not stopped. He has also increased his calls for Congress to fund the wall on the southern border.

Other administration officials have echoed Trump’s stance, urging Congress to pass laws securing the border and promising more action from the administration. The Pentagon said Thursday it is establishing a new “border security support cell” that will be manned 24 hours a day and will support U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

"We will not allow illegal immigration levels to become the norm," DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said this week. "More than 1,000 people a day, 300,000 a year violating our sovereignty as a nation will never be acceptable to this president."

On Friday, Sessions -- who has a long-standing reputation for his tough stance on illegal immigration -- warned that illegal entry into the U.S. will not be rewarded and will be instead “met with the full prosecutorial powers of the Department of Justice.”

“To the Department’s prosecutors, I urge you: promoting and enforcing the rule of law is vital to protecting a nation, its borders, and its citizens,” he said.

Another win for the Donald.

ICE arrests 97 suspected illegal immigrants at Tennessee meat processing plant

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 97 people after raiding a Tennessee meat processing plant, in what civil rights activists say was the largest crackdown at a single place in almost a decade.

ICE spokeswoman Tammy Spicer announced the raid in a statement on Friday and said that of the 97 people taken into custody from Southeastern Provision meat processing plant in eastern Tennessee, 11 people were arrested on criminal charges, 54 were placed in detention and 32 were released.

She said they were all arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

The National Immigration Law Center said it believes this was the largest single-workplace raid since George W. Bush was president, the Washington Post reported.

Federal immigration officials did not confirm if it was the largest.

This was the latest crackdown on illegal immigrants by the Trump administration after he announced last year that ICE agents would be targeting employers that choose to hire immigrants knowing they are illegal.

A total of 21 people were arrested after immigration agents raided 7-11 stores nationwide in January.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

And tRUmp is still hiring foreign workers for his businesses. Could this be just another dog and pony show for the rubes? Well we got rubes 1, 2 and 3 already signaling they've taken the bait.

How arresting poor workers who do the jobs that American citizens will not do is making America great is totally beyond me.

But I'm sure someone here can explain it to me.

National Immigration Law Center says largest since Bush. What happened in that almost a decade? Bush got terminated and a new guy was hired. No mention of the new guy.

So we got illegals being turned away at the border, long term illegals being sent bye bye, and their supporters being cut off. Another win for the big guy and the country.

Is President Trump knowingly hiring illegal aliens? If he was, then you might have a valid point.

If you were willing to listen with an open mind and respond with intelligence and logic instead of emotion and willful ignorance they could. But your track record really doesn't suggest that.

Trump signs memo ending 'catch and release' immigration policy

Quote:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Friday ordering the end of a policy, known as “catch and release,” in which illegal immigrants are released from detention while awaiting a court hearing on their status.

As part of the memo, Trump asked Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to produce a list of military facilities that could be used to detain illegal immigrants.
