My story is similar; when i graduated college, our nation was in a recession and I couldn't get a decent job, so I went in the Army.

After the 911 attack (the one in 2001) people went into the military to kick ass. And I think that is noble, and it could be considered fighting for our freedom. The freedom to live in our country and not have it attacked.
The problem with that was the majority of 911 terrorists were Saudis, yet we went into Iraq. That made no sense and there was no reason for us to be there. We completely destabilized that country and WE were the terrorists then.

So it is NOT total BS. What we have done in the ME has sent a message to anyone thinking about attacking us.
Our invasions of the ME have angered many and that's why they commit terrorist acts here.

How about the Persian Gulf war to save Kuwait? That was not to protect OUR freedom, but it protected Kuwait, and it ALSO sent a message.
We shouldn't be fighting other countries' battles. We had no business in Kuwait. Our military should be fighting for us and they can do that best right here.

Come on, you don't really believe that do you? Should we allow dictators around the world to take over any country they want?, and commit atrocities, and genocide? My nephew went into the Army 1st Cav in 1989 and went to war against the republican guard in 1991 commanding a 155mm self propelled howitzer and had to kill many people when they delivered the "Left Hook" to the RG. He is a Democrat now, but still knows in his heart that we did the right thing, and he is still proud of doing his part to free Kuwait.

Teacher Removed From City Council Committees After Anti-Military Rant

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Officials from a Southern California city are roundly condemning disparaging comments made about members of the U.S. military by a local teacher.

Audio first emerged over the weekend of history teacher and Pico Rivera Council Member Gregory Salcido telling students U.S. servicemembers serving overseas are “not like high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people. They’re the freakin’ lowest of our low.”

In a statement released Monday, city officials said they “unequivocally disagree and condemn” Salcido’s comments, adding, “The city Council and residents of Pico Riviera are steadfast in the recognition that the contributions by those who have served or are currently serving our country via military service are respected and we are grateful for their service.”

According to CBS2’s Randy Paige, Salcido has since been removed from all committees on the Pico Rivera City Council over the remarks and that other fellow council members are “unanimous in their condemnation” of his remarks.

Salcido was elected to the Pico Rivera City Council in 1999, and even twice served as the city’s mayor.

Officials from the El Rancho Unified School District issued a statement on Friday saying an investigation was underway into the remarks.

Salcido did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Some students, however, are supporting Salcido on social media using the hashtag “JusticeForSauce”.

An Instagram account belonging to Salcido also appeared to have been deleted.

Salcido was elected to the Pico Rivera City Council in 1999, and even twice served as the city’s mayor in 2002 and 2010.

He was at the center of another controversy in 2012 after acknowledged he smacked on the back of his head for being disruptive in class.

“When I smacked him on the back of his head and said, ‘Pick up your head and pay attention’, he didn’t say, ‘Ouch’,” Salcido said at the time.

KCAL9’s Andrea Fujii reports that a spokesperson from the Pentagon chimed in on the issue Monday. The spokesperson said Salcido’s statements are uninformed and the Pentagon would like to give him an accurate image of those who serve and why.

Fujii also reports that there is a protest planned for Tuesday outside of the Pico American Legion at 7 p.m. and many veterans are expected to be there.

Gregory Salcido got reamed on Facebook, wow, it was bad.
He's since closed it and you have to send him a friend request now.

We went into Afghanistan because of 9-11. We went into Iraq because a genocidal maniac terrorist in control of WMD's was slaughtering people because of their ethnicity, invading other countries and making threats against the USA.
FYI, Hitler was running a nice stable Germany before we went there. Should we not have gotten involved in that? Were we terrorists then?

So tell me, who was it we invaded that cause the 9-11 attack? The previous attack on the world trade center?

Should we have told France, Belgium, etc. the same thing?

What a clueless tool. If somebody joins the military and puts in for the G.I. bill, try to compare that payoff alongside somebody who takes out student loans that they'll still be paying off in 20+ years...

To the kid who recorded that rant,

When I was in basic training the average education level in our platoon was 13.6 years, that's over one and half years beyond high school.
Many of us (myself included) took the military route to secure funding for our education. It was a calculated risk that I and others took.
The G.I. Bill didn't give me a free college education but it darn sure helped me to get a college education. I graduated debt free. My siblings took a few years to pay off their college induced debt.

Edit to add:
Myself and my siblings all worked full time jobs while in college.

That's a good start. Now they need to fire his sorry ass and keep him away from students.

I don't believe we should be the world's police, and it is a terrible waste of lives and resources to act like we are.

I'm betting there are many countries in Europe and Northern Africa that are pretty grateful that yours wasn't the prevailing attitude in 1944. Just as I am sure there are many in Iraq that are grateful they are no longer being slaughtered by a genocidal maniac thanks to our invasion.
