I guess we can stop callin' these losers "parents."

California house of horrors parents face life in prison on torture, abuse charges | Fox News

Quote:
The parents of the children in the California house of horrors case are facing up to a life in prison after being charged Thursday for torture and child abuse, authorities said, while revealing more shocking details of the alleged atrocities that happened inside the suburban home.

They were each ordered held on bail of $12 million.

they each face sentences of 94 years to life in prison

“One of the children at age 12 is the weight of an average 7-year-old,” he told reporters, revealing more about the discoveries alleged to have been made Sunday after police raided the home in Perris. “The 29-year-old female victim weighs 82 pounds.”

The district attorney said that "the victimization appeared to intensify over time. ... What started out as neglect became severe, pervasive, prolonged child abuse."

the 13 children, which ranged in age from 2 to 29, would sleep all day, going to bed around 4 or 5 a.m. usually, and then would be up all night.

Prosecutors said the victims reported as punishment, starting years ago, they began to be tied up with ropes, with one victim hogtied. When one victim slipped out of the ropes, Hestrin said, it is alleged that the Turpins switched to chains and padlocks for tighter security.

“These punishments would last for weeks, or even months at a time,” he added.

The 17-year-old girl who escaped the home Sunday and called 911, leading authorities to the residence, had worked on her escape plan for two years, Hestrin said she told investigators. He said one sibling came along with her, but then turned around out of fear.
Quote:
Prosecutors allege the children were subjected to “frequent beatings” and “even strangulation”, and weren’t allowed to be unshackled to go to the bathroom. They also allegedly were allowed to take only one shower a year.

“Many of the children didn’t know what a police officer was,” Hestrin said after authorities entered the home Sunday. He added that the victims were not allowed to have toys, despite police finding many in the house in their original packaging, left unopened.
Quote:
Prosecutors also said the parents ate well, and would taunt their children by leaving pumpkin and apple pies on the counter and letting the children look at them, but not eat.

Evidence of human waste on the floor indicated the children were prevented from using the toilet. Sheriff's deputies said the stench in the house was overwhelming.
Quote:
The children never received dental care, and they had not seen a doctor in more than four years. When the girl who escaped was asked if any pills were in the home, she didn't understand what medication was.

The more I hear about these "parents" the more tempted to be sympathetic I become.

I flip back and forth between believing they are evil vile monsters and believing that they are full on insane with zero grasp of reality. The thing that gets me isn't the strange and weird things they had them doing (insane) but the apparent absolute lack of compassion (evil).

This story can't possibly get any worse!

Oh, wait....

'House of horrors' parents had sex romps with strangers, relative says | Fox News

The couple charged in California with shackling and starving 12 of their 13 children grew tired of their strict religious lifestyle -- so they started engaging in seedier sex-fueled hijinks, the mother’s sister revealed on Monday.

David and Louise Turpin began “experimenting in different religions” and forcing their older children to “take care of the younger children so that her and David could kinda sow those wild oats that they didn’t sow when she was younger,” Louise’s sister Teresa Robinette told Megyn Kelly on “Today.”

For example, the sister said Louise, 49, had sex in a hotel with a stranger she met online — with the blessing of her husband, 57 — before re-enacting the affair in the same room exactly a year later, The New York Post reported.

Louise told her sister in a phone call around 2009 that the couple “had met a man online from Huntsville, Alabama, and that they were on their way there to meet him and that she was going to sleep with him and that David was okay with that,” Robinette claimed.

“All I know is that it did happen,” Robinette continued, according to The Post. “She met this man at a motel, slept with him, and what makes it even worse and even weirder is that exactly one year to the day of the anniversary that she did that, she called me and thought it was funny that David was taking her back to the exact same hotel room — the exact same bed that she slept with this man in — so that David could sleep with her in the same bed.”

The Turpins have pleaded not guilty in California to multiple counts of torture, child abuse and false imprisonment, after 13 children, ages 2 to 29, were found living in deplorable conditions in the Riverside County home.

David and Louise Turpin were charged Thursday and face up to life in prison. Each was ordered held in lieu of $12 million bail.

The 12 oldest children, as Fox News has reported, showed signs of severe malnutrition, including stunted growth.

The children were being homeschooled but lacked even basic knowledge such as what a policeman was, investigators said.

Prosecutors said they didn’t know what motivated the Turpins to torture the children in such squalid conditions. The parents were quoted as saying that “God called on them” to have such a large family.

Prosecutors have said that over the years the children were mistreated, beaten and taunted with food and toys they could look at but not have.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

‘My sister wanted a reality show’: Is this why 13 siblings were held captive, tortured?

Quote:
The latest story about the Turpin family’s strange background comes from Louise Turpin’s brother, Billy Lambert, who told the Mirror that the family moved to California to be closer to Hollywood and that Louise Turpin wanted more kids … for a disturbing reason.

“I asked her why on earth they wanted more children and she said about wanting a reality TV show,” Lambert told the Mirror. “They didn’t care about the kids — it was all about them.”

Daughter from 'House of Horrors' may have attempted Texas escape in 2010, report says | Fox News

“House of Horrors” parents David and Louise Turpin abruptly left their Texas home in 2010 following what may have been an attempted escape by one of their children at the time, a new report said on Friday.

The family, according to an account in The Mercury News, picked up and abruptly left the land they lived on in Hill County, Texas, just days after one of their children left to get help. A neighbor ultimately brought the child home instead and the family disappeared soon after.

“All of a sudden, they just disappeared. No one ever saw them again,” said Nellie Baldwin, 78, the current owner of the 36-acre property where the Turpin family once lived.

At the time, the family reportedly living out of a mobile home in the middle of the property. The move into that location came after they allegedly trashed the home they owned. A decomposed bathroom floor, garbage thrown throughout and feces on the walls were all later found in the house.

One of the Turpin daughters eventually left the mobile home and “went walking down the road,” Baldwin claimed, before being picked up by a local resident.

“A neighbor came along. She told him to take her to a telephone,” Baldwin told The Mercury News, adding that she didn’t know where the neighbor ultimately took the girl or who she connected with -- if anyone -- on the phone.

Nellie’s son Billy said that when they bought the property, neighbors reported that a girl had left the trailer and proceeded to ask a lot of questions of the neighbor whom she'd met.

The Turpins probably left, Baldwin said, because they anticipated a potential arrival from child protective services.

“Nobody around there had anything to do with them, because they were loners,” Nellie Baldwin said.

David and Louise Turpin have been accused of abusing their children before the 13 kids were rescued Jan. 14 from their home in Perris, California. They have pleaded not guilty to torture and other charges.

Deputies arrested the husband and wife after their 17-year-old daughter climbed out a window and called 911, officials said. Authorities said they found the siblings in the family's filthy home, with three of them shackled to beds when deputies knocked on the door.

Fox News’ Lucia I. Suarez Sang contributed to this report.
