Prominent lawyer sought donor cash for two Trump accusers

Quote:
A well-known women’s rights lawyer sought to arrange compensation from donors and tabloid media outlets for women who made or considered making sexual misconduct allegations against Donald Trump during the final months of the 2016 presidential race, according to documents and interviews.

California lawyer Lisa Bloom’s efforts included offering to sell alleged victims’ stories to TV outlets in return for a commission for herself, arranging a donor to pay off one Trump accuser’s mortgage and attempting to secure a six-figure payment for another woman who ultimately declined to come forward after being offered as much as $750,000, the clients told The Hill.

The women’s accounts were chronicled in contemporaneous contractual documents, emails and text messages reviewed by The Hill, including an exchange of texts between one woman and Bloom that suggested political action committees supporting Hillary Clinton were contacted during the effort.

Bloom, who has assisted dozens of women in prominent harassment cases and also defended film executive Harvey Weinstein earlier this year, represented four women considering making accusations against Trump last year. Two went public, and two declined.

In a statement to The Hill, Bloom acknowledged she engaged in discussions to secure donations for women who made or considered making accusations against Trump before last year’s election.

“Donors reached out to my firm directly to help some of the women I represented,” said Bloom, whose clients have also included accusers of Bill Cosby and Bill O’Reilly.

Bloom said her goal in securing money was not to pressure the women to come forward, but rather to help them relocate or arrange security if they felt unsafe during the waning days of a vitriolic election. She declined to identify any of the donors.

And while she noted she represented sexual harassment victims for free or at reduced rates, she also acknowledged a standard part of her contracts required women to pay her commissions as high as 33 percent if she sold their stories to media outlets.

“Our standard pro bono agreement for legal services provides that if a media entity offers to compensate a client for sharing his or her story we receive a percentage of those fees. This rarely happens. But, on occasion, a case generates media interest and sometimes (not always) a client may receive an appearance fee,” she said.

“As a private law firm we have significant payroll, rent, taxes, insurance and other expenses every week, so an arrangement where we might receive some compensation to defray our costs seems reasonable to us and is agreed to by our clients,” Bloom added.

Bloom told The Hill she had no contact with Clinton or her campaign, but declined to address any contacts with super PACs that supported the Democratic presidential nominee.

So what's important about that.

Any woman that decided to share her story about being one of the victims sexual assault that Trump admitted to on the Access Hollywood tape knew that they were literally putting their lives in danger. There were more than enough violent Trump supporters to threaten anyone that opposed Donald Trump. Just remember that there were right wing extremists supporting Trump and some of these had no problem with bombing Muslim mosques, killing blacks, or threatening Jews.

This is in addition to the financial burden that Trump would impose in retaliation to any women confirming that he wasn't just bragging on the Access Hollywood tapes but instead, for once in his life, he was actually telling the truth.

Basically another non-story from the Right. Receiving partial reimbursement for costs associated with telling the truth about Donald Trump is not the same as receiving money to tell a lie.

There is no evidence the monies paid to the accusers are reimbursements of any kind just as there is no evidence of violent Trump supporters threatening the accusers. The lawyer peddles the accusers story to the Trump hating media with 1/3 of their payment going to the lawyer/agent.

Gee, a purchased story sold by a commission hungry agent posing as a lawyer, what could go wrong. Is Bloom giving legal or marketing advice to her clients?

Being offered $750K is not compensation for expenses. And the women who turned it down are smarter than the attorney ( Lisa Bloom) involved in soliciting the funds.

Gloria Allred, as a lawyer, should know better. With the exception of expert witness testimony, nothing discredits a witness more than finding out in court before the jury, they were paid to testify.

The story doesn't provide any evidence of any money actually being paid to the women. It only provides information on what the money was being collected to fund. The story does explicitly state that the money was not used to influence the women to falsely accuse Donald Trump.

It's not even logical for a lawyer, like Lisa Bloom, to want women to falsely accuse Donald Trump of criminal sexual assault because that would ultimately lead to the accuser committing perjury when interviewed by law enforcement.

No lawyer, not even a crooked lawyer, would ever advocate perjury by a client. Any woman accusing Donald Trump, or anyone else of sexual misconduct, is subject to being interviewed by law enforcement and to make a false claim (commit perjury) to law enforcement is a felony. Any lawyer that advocates that perjury is subject to severe disciplinary action that can result in them being disbarred.

All of the women that have accused Donald Trump of criminal sexual assault are willing to testify to the sexual assault under oath without any fear of committing perjury because their stories are true.

The Trump accusers have been threatened with both legal action and physical violence. In the following case we have a sworn affidavit submitted to the court addressing a specific threat.

Quote:
California woman accusing Donald Trump of raping her when she was 13 cancels press conference amid threats

The plaintiff made long-denied allegations that the Republican presidential nominee sexually assaulted her in New York during a series of sex parties hosted by alleged billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in 1994.

“Immediately following this rape, Defendant Trump threatened me that, were I ever to reveal any of the details of Defendant Trump’s sexual and physical abuse of me, my family and I would be physically harmed if not killed,” the plaintiff said in an affidavit.

Mindy McGilivray, one of the women that came forward as victim after the Access Hollywood tape was publically released, literally fled the United States out of fear for the safety of her family after receiving anonymous threats.

Yes, Lisa Bloom, the attorney that's representing four of Trump's accusers on a pro bono basis (without fees for the public good), does include in her representation agreement with her clients that she will receive part of the money the women might make if they sell their stories. That's only fair. If the client profits then the attorney that's working for nothing on the case should receive part of that compensation.

Let's remember one very important point. All of the women that have come forward are actually providing testimony to confirm what Donald Trump stated in the Access Hollywood tape (or in the interview with Howard Stern related to the Teen Miss USA pageant where Trump would walk in unannounced to see naked young girls).

Trump's accusers are not contradicting what Trump stated but instead they're confirming what Trump had stated.

Lawyers working on a pro bono basis would certainly welcome donations to offset the costs of their work on the case.

I don't see anyone objecting to Republican donors paying for Trump's legal bills.

Lisa Bloom is neither and attorney or working "pro-Bono." She is an agent who receives commissions for income she generates by booking "guest" on broadcasts.

Her mom, Gloria Allred IS a lawyer. She also does very little pro-Bono work.

As for Trump, I've seen nothing about his solicitation of "donors" to pay his legal fees. As the subject of a "political" witch hunt his campaign uses money for legal defenses yes. Common practice.
