McCain hits Trump where it hurts, attacking ‘bone spur’ deferments in Vietnam

Good! About time we face the fact that creeps like Trump got out of service are now war hawks. McCain makes a good point. He has played golf the past three weekends.

“One aspect of the conflict, by the way, that I will never ever countenance is that we drafted the lowest-income level of America, and the highest-income level found a doctor that would say that they had a bone spur,” McCain said. “That is wrong. That is wrong. If we are going to ask every American to serve, every American should serve.”

Trump received five deferments during Vietnam: four for his studies in college, and one for — you guessed it — bone spurs in his heel. As The Washington Post reported in July 2015:

For the previous four years, Trump had avoided the draft — and the possibility of being sent to fight in the Vietnam War — by obtaining four separate deferments so he could study at Fordham University and the University of Pennsylvania. With his diploma in hand and his college days over, he was suddenly vulnerable to conscription.

Trump’s exposure to the draft, however, didn’t last long. Two months later, on Sept. 17, 1968, he reported for an armed forces physical examination and was medically disqualified, according to the ledger from his local Selective Service System draft board in Jamaica, N.Y., now in the custody of the National Archives.

The ledger does not detail why Trump failed the exam — the Selective Service destroyed all medical records and individual files after the draft ended in 1973 and the military converted to an all-volunteer force.

In recent days, Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, and his campaign have said that he received the medical deferment because he had bone spurs in his feet. But rather than clear up all questions about why he did not serve in the military during the Vietnam era, they have given shifting accounts that are at odds with the few remaining documents in his Selective Service file.

Trump would later clarify the reason for his final deferment in a 2016 interview with the New York Times: “I had a doctor that gave me a letter — a very strong letter on the heels.” He said the condition was temporary and that it was “not a big problem, but it was enough of a problem.” His campaign continued to be cagey about providing documentation.

Trump didn't "find" any doctor...:no

It was an ARMED SERVICES PHYSICAL EXAMINATION that medically disqualified him...He reported to THEM...NOT a "found" doctor...:yes

If McCain has a problem, it's with the ARMED SERVICES that disqualified him...NOT Trump himself...:no

McCain has another problem. He is being childish. He criticized Trump and his supporters the very first time Trump went to AZ. Trump then said the now famous words, that he likes soldiers who were not captured, that they are the hero's.....

McCain took offence to it. McCain might be able to dish it out, but boy he can't take it at all. he is now reduced to a child who is whining about Trump. :wave

He needs to retire now.

Conservatives don't approve of draft dodging hippies today. There were hundreds of thousands of legal exemptees, and a few dodgers. Unless you know something I don't, Trump falls into the former group.

Is there some reason you believe that Trump's dad paid for a false diagnosis to avoid the draft? Or are you just blabbering?

Bill Clinton's multiple deferments are ignored. They were acceptable enough to support him for President and beyond.:rolls

McCain is suddenly revered now that he has joined the resistance attacking Trump at every turn and trashing the Republican party in the process.:thumbsup

Less than 7% of Americans are Veterans. And more than half of them are over 60 years old.

Less than 2% are women. Thus giving Hilary, Nancy and Elizabeth a free pass on this qualification to be the POTUS.
Aside from that, the Democrats have hoisted and elected two recent President who did not serve a day in the military. So John McCain is barking at the wrong postman here. And using his military experience to be politically mendacious.

And the progressives of the nation are using McCain as their lap monkey to continue the anti Trump derangement.

The connection between his military deferment and compassionate approach to Gold Star families is nothing but more vile gossamer only visible in the light of evil..

I fear he had this coming since the idiotic quip about liking people who weren't captured.
